Jaysen Batchelor, a freelance illustrator who started in an animation studio, teaches it with co-instructor Quinton Batchelor. The syllabus runs a little over 11 hours across 64 lectures: line, shape and form, value, one, two and three point perspective, still life, texture, then the face, the figure and a single animation character lesson. It is pencil and paper only, no tablet. It suits absolute beginners who want a structured path through the fundamentals rather than a set of fun drawings to copy.

Reviewers like that it teaches fundamentals first and then builds on them, and that sections come with homework. Several say Batchelor explains things clearly at a pace a complete novice can follow, including one reviewer who had not drawn since grade school 60 years ago and found other courses overwhelming. The complaints are consistent. The very first drawing lesson is a photo-realistic eye, which one beginner found genuinely discouraging, and a few felt the jump from the basics to the advanced material was too steep. I have loved this course for years, I started it when I was in high school but stoped in college. Ever since I’ve been looking forward to graduating and finding the time to get back into drawing and finish the course. Even though I initially didn’t get supper far the things that I leant I took with me and have used for the last few years! So excited that I’m back and able to learn more to improve my drawing!!

I’m really happy with this course: it teaches you the fundamentals, then gradually continues with more advanced topics. It is very well explained and you even get homework to do, which has definitely helped me improving my (before non-existing) drawing skills. The course is a little bit old, and I haven’t seen recent replies in the Q&A sections from the creators; however, you will be invited to their FB group, which is very active and full of nice people willing to help. Thank you very much to the instructor/s!

Imagine being excited to dip into a new skill and buying a beginner course. And the first thing you're told to do is follow along with drawing a photo-realistic eye. While having absolutely 0 drawing experience because you know, you're a BEGINNER who bought a BEGINNER course. I'm going to keep moving forward with this course because I'll get it eventually, but this 1 star rating will stay for the absolute annoyance and discouragement that this boneheaded idea for a first lesson caused me.

I finished "The Ultimate Drawing Course - Beginner to Advanced" on Udemy, and I’m really happy with everything I learned. When I started, I couldn’t even draw a single line properly, but now I can create some really good drawings with confidence. This course taught me so many important drawing fundamentals and helped me improve step by step. But I also realized that success is not 100% about which course you choose — it’s about your dedication. You have to practice again and again to see real improvement. What I Learned from my Art Course This art course taught me that becoming better at drawing takes discipline, time, patience, and attention to detail. I learned that art skills can also be useful in everyday life because they teach me to observe carefully, focus, solve problems, and keep trying when something is difficult. Most importantly, this course helped me gain confidence in my ability to draw. I can now look back at my earlier work and see how much I have improved.
