Course Description

Ready to create a game in the amazing world of Unreal Engine 5?

Make an awesome first person shooter game, where players will be spawned into a level with a handful of dangerous drones and tasked with destroying them to clear the zone!

Your game will have it all! You’ll create a first person shooter character, with movement mechanics and animation. Attach weapons and combat with effects including sounds and particle systems.

Then you get to create hostile enemy drones with pathfinding. Finally adding Game Mode and HUD with countdown timers, health bars, announcements, game states and score. Oh and it wouldn’t be a FPS game without health and ammo pickups, so you’ll learn that too!

You’ll be doing all of this in Blueprints, so you won’t need experience in programming or C++. We’ll walk you through the new Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) interface. And you'll learn best practises for setting up Blueprints and creating game logic.

All of the assets are provided, but you’ll make the actual game yourself from scratch!

You’ll get full lifetime access for a single one-off fee. The creators are qualified and experienced with modelling and coding, so are able to explain complex concepts clearly, as well as entertain along the way.

All students have access to the Q&A forums where our Instructors, Teaching Assistants and Community are ready to help answer your questions and cheer on your success.

This course is ideal if you want to make your own video games in UE5, are a beginner with no game development experience or if you have experience in other engines such as Unity.

So dive into the amazing world of UE5 now!

Very good explanation of blueprints. I was able to get my head around the concepts and how it works. I would of liked to seen a part 2 to this or add something like a Game Menu. Perhaps part 2 if it ever is made could include game menu and how to create a multiplayer experience. Overall one of the best instructors for Unreal Engine 5 programming. He really understands what he is doing and the subjects can get very complicated.

For UE beginners, Stephen's teaching rhythm and method are very friendly. He explains each programming logic very clearly, and will respond enthusiastically to the QA raised by the students. Therefore, when I encounter something I don't understand, I will search the QA first, and I can often find here that the students have asked the questions and solutions I want to ask. Stephen will also provide opportunities for self-practice at appropriate stages, so that students can try to see if they can use what they have learned so far to program, and then compare with Stephen's answers. This class has benefited me a lot and increased my interest and confidence in using UE to make independent games. I have also purchased many other UE courses from Stephen, and I really think he is a good instructor who is very worthy of recommendation.

I decided to re-review this course after taking another course on GoDot - Intro to 2D from Udemy (Great course). It gave me a lot of information on concepts (physics, mesh, collisions etc..). Then I took another course on building an FPS from Virtus with blueprints (also another great course). Then after getting a very good understanding of everything, I decided to come back to this course and I must say, this course is by far the best one. I was able to navigate and understand it a lot better and after completing 80% of this course, I still will give this course a 5 star rating, the instructor explains things very clearly and offers some good ways of refactoring the nodes. And this is coming from a 25+ year experience full stack developer -:). Great Job on this course. Well worth the money

I would like to evaluate the said course in my own way as follows. (1) The instructor's voice is easy to hear. (2) The way the course was conducted was polite. (3) The Q&A replies (by Tuomo) are very quickly. <Bad points> When the person who received the packaged product plays the game on his/her PC, he/she cannot retry or quit the game. When I contacted Q&A, I was told that that was beyond the scope of the course and that I should take another course or ask some community. I can't understand that the instructor ended the course as a package of something that cannot be played as it is. For example, they could have included a lesson with a Retry button or an Exit button. Why did the Instructor end the course in such a half-hearted way? It is a shame because the course itself was very good. You can play the game you created in the course in the UnrealEngine5 editor, but if you distribute the packaged version to your family and friends, you will not be able to Retry or quit the game on their PC. For your information, this time I force-quit the said application by using Task Manager. The course content is very good and I would have originally given it 4.5 stars, but because of the packaging issue, I will give it 5.

Unity developer migrating to Unreal here. BEST UE5 COURSE! Well explained and doesn't require 50GB-100GB of stupidly huge starter assets to do a beginner tutorial. Small, straightforward and explains content well. No random bugs or issues or random hiccups or unexplained skips walking through this. Updated tutorials for latest Unreal Engine as of September 2023. Sections are split in reasonable chunks and covers lots of basic need-to-knows on how to use Unreal. Tutorial doesn't make computer explode from pointlessly high graphics settings - runs on a low end entry level gaming pc. Instructor is clear and easy to follow. Worth every cent!

A lot of things were not fixed or explained. The course is not updated for UE 5.1.1. Some things were hastily explained or even skipped. Some core character movement was not implemented such as sprinting (Shift sprint), crouch, or reloading the weapon. The course could have been extended to show how to switch between two different weapons for example, switching between Pistol and an Assault Rifle. Moreover, at the end the inside of the rifle mesh was still visible. AND A LOT MORE PROBLEMS. Recommendation: Try to create tutorials covering multiple aspects instead of hastily creating some tutorial. I would have preferred longer course which could have covered more aspects of First Person Shooter game mechanics.

Stephen Ullibari and the GameDev team have a great track record for doing excellent courses. I thank Game dev Tv for making me a competent Unity developer a few years back. I started on Unreal Engine 5 months ago and then the first course I did was Stephen's Learn C++ for Game Development. He is an excellent teacher and got me hooked from the first lesson. This course is meticulously explained and very thorough. He answers ALL questions within 24 hours. This was a problem in many other classes, but with Stephen, you develop such confidence in the teachers' support always. Thank you GamedevTv and Stephen Ullibari for sharing your expertise with the world! I highly recommended this course.

I enjoyed how the instructor went into detail and guided you, this is awesome for both beginners and experts. I also appreciated sections that encouraged you to do things on your own before continuing with the video, this helps you learn without always being dependent on someone. I would give it a 5 but some errors appeared on my end that weren't in video, it could be because at this time Unreal might have made changes in the blueprints. Another reason is be nice to see a fully animated character and more weapons. I understand for the sake of time this is probably why those things weren't in there. I would and am recommending this course to start and refresh memories for. Awesome job, look forward to working with you all, making better games that we used to have and thank you!

This course is packed with useful information and tips. Really helpful to game designing beginners like me. I recommend it if you want to make fun and challenging games. I added a lot more features, like a reload and sprinting system, only using the information I picked up and learned during this course. Stephen is a great instructor, since he explains every step clearly. No matter how complex the topic is, he teaches it with love and passion. I found and debugged a lot of my mistakes in my previous personal projects, thanks to Stephen's clean instructions. I look forward to seeing more tutorials from him, both blueprint based and C++.

Really excellent course. I have seen Stephen Ulibarri's lectures here and also in updates to lectures in the Unreal C++ course. He is very clear at explaining things - really didn't feel lost once during this course - and it covers many subjects. He also put emphasis on the student doing more work as the course progressed - the pacing was very good. Each section and lecture has a clear introduction as to what it is aiming to achieve, and a clear conclusion going over what has been achieved. It is amazing to me that you can knock out such a game in a handful of hours. These lectures and the resulting project would be a good reference for anyone writing their own game. It makes you think that the hard part is thinking up a good game rather than implementing it - which is probably a testament to the skill of the lecturer.
