Web Design in Affinity Designer Masterclass (Udemy.com)

Very easy to follow once you get to grips with the Affinity Designer software. Instructor is very clear with the instructions and you will struggle to go wrong as you are walked through the process, which is great as you will be familiar with all the standard design functions once you have completed the course. Even though the course is quite an aged course it is very useful. Could do with an Affinity V2 update.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT COURSE FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE - A "NO-BRAINER" - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...This will speed up my design mockup time over 70%. Having said that, however, you need to know what the course does and doesn't cover. ✨First off, this is a TARGETED USE OF AFFINITY DESIGNER -- don't expect to learn all of its features/tools. NO OTHER COURSE ON AD IS SPECIFIC TO WEB DESIGN. It is a highly focused course in using the power of AD specifically for creating mockups for website production -- it is not about HTML, CSS, or other actual website production languages/techniques. It is not about an "export as html option", like Photoshop has (or at least used to have). It is about VISUAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES and AFFINITY TOOLS/WORKFLOWS TO ACCOMPLISH A GREAT LOOKING MOCKUP EFFICIENTLY!!!!! It is set up to give newbies an understanding of basic visual design principles as well -- if you have this knowledge, you can jump in at section 8, about halfway through. This sets everyone up for success. So don't complain in the reviews that Dawid doesn't cover enough! If you are after a broader knowledge of tools/ways to use AD, there are other great Udemy courses available (search for Jeremy Hazel's courses), so make sure you MANAGE YOUR EXPECTATIONS! BTW, the resources for download are on Google Drive at : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4EhouZW-YgVc1JiRTJZOWo4MkE - this was my only "real" complaint about the course - they should be provided in a link AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE--say, something like: Lecture 2: Download the course resources ❤ Having said that, KUDOS to Dawid for such a great course!!!!! Excellent step by step process for creating a typical website with blog page mockup. Great on showing/explaining the development process by first creating production tools such as layout grids and page design templates. Producing a library of design assets (symbols) really facilitates the mock up process. If you work along with the videos, you'll have a lot of great assets to start dragging and dropping onto a 12 col grid based file. Ditto for the development of text styles. For those folks unfamiliar with the basics of visual design/layout, the first half of the course gives a robust summary of visual design principles, as well as current visual design trends. Dawid has a great sense of design aesthetics. The only thing I found a bit taxing was the last 2 sections of the course -- on creating the blog pages -- very little new content, but there were definitely "gems" sprinkled throughout. Was highly repetitious watching the creation of text frames, sizing them and positioning them, then editing the text. Since there was such focus on creating design assets in the first part of the course, it would have speeded up the course significantly if a mocked up asset, ready for dropping into the layout, was created for the blog features and sidebar features -- likewise, why not show creating an asset of an entire sidebar, blog comment form, etc. instead of the same steps for creating text frames? I would rather have seen some other features demo'd --- drop shadows on boxes, more options on polygon shape editing, transparency, etc. However, the repetition definitely forces the info into your head, so that's a good take away :-) On a personal level, I found that watching at 1.25 speed was better for me than at 1.0, but I also have a strong visual background so I didn't need to mentally focus as much on the first 7 or so sections of the course. Would also be interesting to know if any features of version 1.7 or later would be helpful in enhancing website mockup. I LEARNED TONS -- LOTS OF "POWER USER" TIPS/TRICKS ALONG THE WAY. DEFINITELY WOULD TAKE MORE COURSES FROM DAWID!

TLDR; Not the cleanest course, but definitely worth it - even as a complete beginner. I learned from the course and definitely feel more confident using Affinity Designer than before. I was a complete beginner so it was a bit tough following all of the exercises but it forced me to learn by doing. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the design theory section (but felt it was a bit much). Aside from that, it was difficult to locate all of the resources within the course (they're there but you have to look for them).

AMAZING COURSE on building web page mock-ups in Affinity Designer. The instructor presented the lessons in a clear and precise manner. The videos were not too long and the pacing was excellent. I usually build mock-ups in Photoshop or Figma, but recently decided to invest in Affinity Designer. This course in the PERFECT companion for that app. Dawid's lessons made building prototype web pages with AD fun and easy, and I learned many time-saving techniques. If you are a newcomer to Affinity Designer or web design in general, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this course. It's a great value, and the clear instructions will make it a breeze to follow along with and build your own awesome website mock-ups and wireframes.

I've taken other courses by Dawid that I really enjoyed. So I decided to take this one, and it did not disappoint! If you're wanting to learn how to create a website using Affinity Designer, then this is the course to take! The instructor was very informative and explained/showed how to create everything at a pace that was very easy to follow! Now I have more skills and projects to add to my portfolio, and this also gave me more inspiration to create different types of websites of my own! I look forward to more classes Dawid will create in the future!!!

I found the course useful and a good review of design principles for beginners at the start of the course. Once he moved into Affinity designer it was useful to see how the instructor used this program for design. What I would like to see improved is that when using a shortcut key the shortcut key should be verbally stated each time. The instructor clones elements multiple times throughout the course but never states the shortcut key. Alternatively text overlay with shortcut keys would work.

It has almost everything to be a 5 star course: nice explanations, hands-on examples and so on. BUT it does not have a attention to mobile design (though the principles shown here could be applied to mobile) and the resources are not enough. There is a blog design tutorial in the end but no resource for that. If Dawid adds the resources I'll give the course another half star and if he adds some lessons on mobile design or responsiveness in some kind I'll give another whole star to the course.

While design concepts and best practices are important and of great interest to me, I'm surprised that Affinity Designer isn't mentioned until section 6 video 19. I would like to see more direct application of design concepts using Affinity Designer. Well, the previous comment was my first review and I changed my rating from 3 to 5 star. My early concerns that I may have been misled by the course description and what to expect could have been avoided by a better up-front course description. From section 6 video 19 on, I found tremendous value consisting of workflow, tips and techniques specifically applied to Affinity Designer. I have now "favorited" this course in my learning library. I learned things about both good design AND Affinity Designer that never even occurred to me before.
