Vector Drawing on the iPad with Affinity Designer (Udemy.com)

Brad is such a good teacher, that I went back to this old Affinity V1 course just to finish it and give it a proper review even though Affinity is now significantly transformed into its V3 by Canva. This was a great vector-workflow introduction for beginners (as I used to be when I purchased it). I understand he is now thinking of a new updated course. My suggestion would be to include more pixel-vector integration, as I think it is Affinity’s most significant trait. Thank you, Brad!

It was a fun course, and I feel like I learnt the basics of the program while doing it. When I bought the course, I had just got Designer 1, but when taking the course I am now using Designer 2. A lot of the tools and context menus have moved around, so it took a while and was occasionally frustrating to follow along as I couldn't find the tools or settings that were being used in the videos, but I got there in the end! Another thing that I found a bit difficult was seeing where Brad was touching on the screen. I had to rewind and pause a bunch of times. For the sped up parts, I would recommend muting the audio, and possibly using some copyright free music for them (that is the audio engineer and video editor in me nitpicking, sorry!). All in all, a well thought out and fun way to learn to use Designer. I actually think that the differences between version 1 and 2 probably helped me to learn my way around the program a bit better!

Great course on the interface and use of the tools in Affinity Designer on the iPad. A good course to get you heading in the right direction. The course felt a bit light on some details, but it helped you in the right direction to dig a bit deeper for the answers. Not 5 stars because Affinity has added a few new tools that are not covered in the course (an update would fix this), but still an excellent course.

I loved this course. I learned just what I needed to get the basics down of the program. There were a few tiny things that didn't quite work as shown (more than likely due to updates since the course was posted), but it was pretty simple to figure out a work-around based on what was taught. I will definitely recommend this to my Ipad user friends!

This course was amazing, but I didn't expect anything less from Brad, having followed him on youtube for a long while. I'm by no means an expert at (vector) illustration but I've always felt fairly comfortable with hopping into new software. I wasn't expecting to pick up so many tricks and tips (especially with the gestures). I've definitely picked up time-savers that will help me in the future. I also learnt what some features actually do on a technical level rather than just take them for granted. I'm looking forward to practicing more, especially now that I'm about 4 times faster with the pen tool!

Ich habe den Kurs gerade beendet, das Plakat vom Zombie House erstellt und bin zufrieden mit dem, was ich gelernt habe. Ich habe mich aufgrund des Bildes bzw. des Projektes für diesen Kurs entschieden und war am Ende enttäuscht, dass ich nicht in der Lage war, die gleichen Farben zu erzeugen, die Brad im Kurs verwendet hat. Hier würde ich mir eine Farbpalette mit allen verwendeten Farben wünschen, die ich auf das Artboard ziehen kann. Das würde mir die Arbeit sehr erleichtern. Wenn ich eigene Farben erzeugen will, kann ich das ja trotzdem tun. Außerdem war es am Anfang extrem schwierig, dem Kurs zu folgen, da am iPad nicht sichtbar war, welche Tasten gedrückt werden. Hier wäre eine Einblendung eines Pfeiles oder ein Umkreisen ebenfalls arbeitserleichternd gewesen. Die rechte Seite hätte für die Einblendung aktueller Arbeitsschritte besser genutzt werden können als für die Anzeige des derzeit bearbeiteten Themenbereiches. Die Reihenfolge einiger Lektionen hätte sicherlich auch anders geordnet werden könne, z.B. das Gruppieren würde am Anfang sehr viel Sinn machen, was dann auch bei der ersten Erstellung des Hauses hätte angewendet werden können. FAZIT: Ich empfehle ALLEN, das Haus erst dann zu zeichnen, wenn es vollständig erstellt wurde. Ansonsten steht ein HÄUFIGES Ändern von Farben und Details an, was definitiv keinen Spaß macht und auch nicht dem Lernprozess förderlich ist. Die Tastenkombinationen (Gesten) sind seit Erscheinen des Kurses stellenweise geändert worden. Diese Gesten irgendwo suchen, so dass man für die entsprechende Version die zugehörigen Gesten verwendet, weil auch das den Arbeitsablauf unheimlich stört, wenn die angegebenen Gesten nicht zum erwarteten Ergebnis führen. Der Kurs macht Spaß, ist anstrengend, manchmal auch ein wenig nervig. Belohnt wird die Ausdauer mit dem Stolz über ein abgeschlossenes Projekt und ein schönes Plakat.

What a superb course this is! Brad is an excellent teacher, introducing new concepts in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step way. The content was broken down into manageable video sessions and I really appreciated the list of what was going to be covered in each session as the session progressed. The course was well structured and the project was not only enjoyable, but I learnt so many useful techniques and tips while working on it. I hope Brad will consider doing more courses for the iPad, particularly in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo and also Procreate.

This course will take you way more that 4 and a half hours. Maybe in the intro it be better to set some expectations on what we will be doing in more detail. See, I love this teachers other courses, but since this one involves one picture you are drawing, it can get pretty tedious. There are alot of details in this project. And things like grouping and layers are presented around the 50% mark, after already making alot of shapes, which makes cleaning things up kind of messy and time consuming. Also, you run into alot of issues like the snapping not working the way described, or moving shapes you didn't want to move, moving and having to undo over and over. This might be because I am new, but after spending over 5 hours on one picturing and realizing I am only on the house, there is still a long way to go. Perhaps videos that do into more details as to How the Snapping options work, really explaining what the program is looking for, because some scenarios down the road, objects would not snap to shape like in the video and I have to google or ask a question or just leave the snap not perfect for the sake of moving on to the next part of the lesson. Things like recoloring the house three times also seem unnecessary. It makes sense to built mistakes into a course so we can learn how to get out of it. But After I recolored the whole house, the next video wanted me to do it again to make it spooky, why not make the recolor part's objective straight to spooky. At this point, I know how to recolor, just doing it all over again seemed tedious for s simple concept like recoloring a shape. And again, these are a bunch of shapes that are not grouped at this point. It's a good project and you learn alot thru trial and error on your own. But I think this course could stand to have some improvements to make the learning process a bit smoother. I would still recommend buying it, again I do love the teacher, would just like to see some updates and variety.

excellent class and instructor. it was such a fun project to work on and in the beginning when we were shown what we would be creating, i thought there was no way i could create that with a 4 and a half hr course. but i did, and learned a lot while having fun. would love to see some more intermediate level courses (photo and designer) for the ipad.

This was exactly what I was looking for. Quick an interesting tutorial to teach me all the ins and outs of Affinity Designer for the Ipad so that I can start using it for professional work. Only thing that would have made it better would be to show a bird's eye view of using the iPad. Screen recording made it just a little bit more difficult to see what button is being pressed/gesture being used. Maybe for the next one! All in all, I highly recommend it! Thanks!
