What is 3D Pixel Art?
3D Pixel art is a form of digital art, created through the use of 2D-like raster graphics software, where images are edited on the pixel level in the form of blocks. Graphics in most old (or relatively limited) computer, console, graphing calculator and mobile phone video games are mostly 2D pixel art, and now we use the new technologies t have the retro-cool style with the amazing functionality that 3d technology provides. Some famous 3d pixel art video games (voxels) are minecraft , or crossy road.
Note: This is the first course in a series to enable you to make amazing mobile games on your own. If you want to make progress, it is recommended to also take my other course on how to make 3D pixel characters and how to animate them within Unity 3D game engine.
Then it is recommended to follow with the course on how to design, build, program and publish a Crossy Road like game to the app stores using Unity 3D.
By taking these courses, you will have a solid set of skills to get you to create professional games and can either become a solo entrepreneur or get hired by AAA game studios.
Enjoy!

It is really great, but the GUI of version 0.97 is some kind of different from the version that is used in the lecture video. It takes time to get used to it. Now I have the ability to model something I want in a new way. Thank you Yohann!

Very good course. It help you to take good practices to manage MagicaVoxel tool, and gives you all you need to make some cubic games characters.Only one remark, this curse is not made with the last version of MagicaVoxel, and you had to take some time to find the "shape/brush" toolbar in the new version.

An interesting course, simple. A minor thing is the version of the software impact on the course videos, e.g. the user interface of the application seems different. The link https://www.appsfresh.com/blog not works to me. It shows 502 bad gateway. Thanks for making this course.

I'm a visual designer just venturing into the world of 3D and Unity game design, and he made me feel very comfortable. While the instructions felt a little faster in Unity, I still felt extremely confident to go on to the next level! Thank you Yohann!

Maybe i'm not the target of the course but I found it pretty easy. The first modules where magicaVoxel is explained are good, but it also have lot of features that are not explained.By inheritance of the previous comment, there are 5 exercices which are done with the same technics (extrude face, paint and draw lines). Normally if you add an exercise it's because you want to show something new, not because you want to do another example of the same. Also, all examples are based on copying crossy road, which is pretty forward. An example from a draw that's not already done in Voxels would be also good.Exporting to Unity is also a good one, but again it's pretty easy i would like to explore more features on that. Also in general missing some theory.

This is a fun, compact couse that teaches the subject of making voxel models in Magicavoxel (a free app) and finally importing them into Unity3D (version 5.2 or later) and injecting them into an existing Crossy Road style game.I enjoyed making the various characters and vehicles and Yohann has a good delivery and leads you through each lecture quite nicely. He makes the odd, minor mistake here and there but he corrects himself straight away so that wasn't an issue. If you want to create Crossy Road style characters for a game or even just blocked-out placeholders to get your game ideas up and running before replacing with a different style, the Magicavoxel app seems like a simple but powerful (and fun) option and this course gets you up to speed on pretty much all the important points.

Amazingly easy and the free tool is very useful, I was looking for a 3d modeler to just make quick backgrounds. This is definitely the one, Great if you re a team of one.In one day I built a castle, a tree, and a road.I was able to build all the models in 2 days, I even built my own models.

I have been working on learning Unity and GameDev for the past year but I have little to no artistic skills when it comes to creating objects and pixel art. This course gave me a lot of ideas on how to make Game assets or even placeholders that are good enough until you can get someone to make the final art. Very good instructor and responds to questions promptly.

Really nice content and really well explained. Morever, the provided resources are superb too.

Good course for beginners but its out of date. Magicavoxel has changed quite a bit which made the course difficult to follow.

The instructor is knowledgable about the program. I learned a lot about MagicaVoxel in a very short time. I had tried this program awhile ago and was totally confused. Yohan made it fun. I have experimented with using the different brush and shape tools and am already adapting my own way of using the program. It has opened up a lot of questions. I am looking forward to the rest of the course.

The information is very good but does not relate to the current download so is fairly confusing. The Shape and Brush toggle is missing in my version 0.98.1 After writing this I noticed the version used is actually included in the bonus section so try not to make the same mistake! Having no Unity experience it was good to see how that works and in conjunction with the files created in MagicaVoxel, so you get a complete work flow. Really enjoyed the course and I am now able to create the 3D models easily. Thanks.
