Course Description
Taught by 3D artist, animator, and designer Robin Ruud, Blender 3D Design Essentials is your gateway into the free software behind everything from Hollywood blockbusters to bold brand visuals. Whether you’re a graphic designer, aspiring motion artist, or video game enthusiast, adding Blender to your toolkit will open up new possibilities for your creativity and career!
If you’ve ever opened Blender, felt overwhelmed, and closed it just as fast, you’re not alone. But this course is designed to change that. Robin takes a hands-on, designer-focused approach, guiding you step-by-step through projects that build real skills through practice and problem solving. From product mockups and packaging design to custom characters and animation, you’ll gain tools you can plug into your existing workflow right away.
Together with Robin, you’ll learn how to:
Confidently navigate Blender’s interface
Model clean, professional 3D objects
Apply realistic materials like glass, metal, and liquid
Light, frame, and render your scenes
Create branded mockup and packaging
Design and animate your own 3D character
Adding 3D to your skillset unlocks fresh possibilities for storytelling, prototyping, brand identity, and motion graphics. The secret? Once you’ve mastered a handful of essential tools and techniques, creating work that looks complex becomes surprisingly simple. Filtered through Robin’s perspective as a visual designer, this course zeroes in on just those core tools, making learning approachable and fun.
By the end, you’ll have the skills and confidence to bring your ideas to life in 3D, and a collection of portfolio-ready pieces to prove it. So take the first step towards becoming a Blender Hero—sign up now to transform your design skills!
Requirements:
Download Blender for free, for either PC or Mac
Blender runs on most modern computers, but you’ll need at least 8 GB of memory and a reasonably fast processor. More memory, a stronger graphics card, and a faster hard drive will all help with better performance.
A mouse is recommended for best control, but Robin covers trackpad-friendly workflows too
Who this course is for:
Beginners with zero experience in Blender or 3D
Designers ready to bring more dimension to their work
Students, freelancers, and in-house creatives looking to expand their creative edge

Sharing is who I am, and teaching is where I am at my best, because I've been on both sides of that equation, and getting to deliver useful training is my meaningful way to be a part of the creative community.
I've spent a long time watching others learn, and teach, to refine how I work with you to be efficient, useful and, most importantly, memorable. I want you to carry what I've shown you into a bright future.
I have a wife (a lovely Irish girl) and kids. I have lived and worked in many places (as Kiwis tend to do) – but most of my 14+ years of creating and teaching has had one overriding theme: bringing others along for the ride as we all try to change the world with our stories, our labours of love and our art.
I'm a certified Adobe instructor (ACI) in Ireland. I'm also an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) and have completed the Adobe Certified Associate training (ACA). And I don't just do Adobe. Remember, media is a very broad term – digital blew out the borders, so we are all constantly learning.
I've been teaching for 14+ years. I come from being a media designer and content creator – so I understand exactly where you're at now. I've been there. I love this stuff. Print, digital publishing, web and video. I can see how it all connects. And I can see how we can share those connections.

Great course. Really informative. My only critique is that I would have rather learned about armatures for animation, but other than that this course got me over the Blender 'hump' and I feel like I could make about anything now in 3D.

This was not my first Blender course but it definitely helped me a lot. Learning through projects was very fun and useful. As a beginner, I realized how easily I could do things that I thought I couldn't do on my own. I think it was also very valuable to share the projects with other students and to be able to give feedback to each other. Thank you Robin for everything

So far so good, it's a totally new interface so a lot to adjust to. I'm not intimidated though, I'm excited!

I've been trying to perfect my Blender skills for quite a while. Most courses I've taken were boring and I just lost interest after hours and hours of videos. This course on the other hand was well presented and quite complete. It was also entertaining enough that it kept my interest. The key feature I found was that the subject matter was presented in a short and complete way, that gave you want you needed and moved on. - I do recommend this course to others, because I enjoyed it quite a bit. Great job!!!

I’ve watched countless YouTube tutorials and even purchased some of the more popular Blender courses on Udemy, but I can honestly say this is the best course for a beginner. The instructor is clear, direct, and explains everything in a very engaging and enjoyable way. Every lesson teaches something genuinely useful, and there’s no wasted time. I sincerely hope the instructor creates more Blender courses in the future, I would gladly buy all of them. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to get into Blender the right way. I’m currently on section 7, and I’ve already learned more than from all other resources combined and I’m not exaggerating. Happy learning to all students, and my best wishes to Professor Robin Ruud!

It's been a blast honestly! Robin is incredibly well spoken, I could follow his instructions easily without subtitles as a non-native English speaker. The contents within this course have opened my mind in terms of everything Blender is capable of, and many things I'm now capable of doing too! Can't wait to keep using Blender to create, both professionally and artistically.

Is good to start, The instructor is good. He follows a good path that shows the student how to do a thing in a normal way then shows you the way he thinks is good and better for workflow. I wished, if he would animate the character using the bones system instead of the basic way of animation. Thank you.

This was definitely the best Blender course I ever came across. I finally UNDERSTAND so much of what's going on, instead of just blindly following instructions in tutorials/courses and clicking things just because! I feel sooo empowered to just start creating now because I have the knowledge to kick things off! If you want to learn Blender — emphasis on the word "learn", not just copy what others do and end up with a donut because you followed instructions — this is the place to go. Great content and a great teacher. Money and time definitely well spent!

This has been great so far and I'm sure it will continue to be. The teacher is great! I appreciate that his personality seems like he just learned Blender (but is really good at it) and he wants to show us all this cool stuff. Great info and great teacher! 6 stars instead of 5.

This course is everything I've needed. I love how fun and explanatory it is without making me feel bored or overwhelmed. Whenever I'm struggling with modelling something, I find myself coming back to the videos.
