Course Description
Welcome to Blender Masterclass: Learn Blender in only 6 Hours! (This course is 100% compatible with Blender 3.x)
Ever dreamed of being a 3D Artist but can't afford the very high prices of 3D applications? Well then it's time you take a look at Blender. Blender is 100% Free and Open Source which means it's being developed faster than any other 3D application currently out there. New features are being added all the time, and any existing bugs get fixed very quickly because of the nature of being Open Source.
Blender has completely redesigned it's interface, and I personally think it's one of the most practical and user friendly interfaces available.
This course consists of the following lessons:
The Blender Interface
3D Modeling Basics
Pivots and The 3D Cursor
Using a Reference Image for Modeling
Smooth Shading vs Flat Shading
Adding Lights To Your Scene
Using HDRI Environments
Modifiers Overview
Array Modifier
Mirror Modifier
Boolean Modifier
Solidify Modifier
Subdivision Surface Modifier
Proportional Editing
All About Collections
All About Parenting
Animation Keyframes and The Graph Editor
Materials Basics
UV Unwrapping
Material Node Editor
Volumetric Lighting And Fog
Ridged Body Simulations
Cloth Simulations
Camera Settings
Rendering Your Animation or Scene
BONUS Lesson - Basic Character Rigging
And of-course much more - in only 6 HOURS!!!
Follow along and become the 3D artist you've always dreamt about.
Let me teach you how to use one of the most exciting 3D Applications out there!
See you in the first lesson!

Ruan Lotter
Ruan Lotter is a VFX & 3D Artist, Online Teacher, Music Producer and Author from Cape Town, South Africa. He has worked on many short films and TV commercials for brands such as Hasbro, Lipton, RB, Ryobi and HP doing mostly camera tracking, general 3D work and compositing.
It all started in 1994 when he discovered 3dsmax for DOS! Back then it was called "3D Studio" and that changed everything... A few years later, 3dsmax for Windows was released and the world of online tutorials was born. Ruan instantly started binge watching online tutorials on a website called "3D Buzz" and dove deep into the world of 3D. Over the years he used many different VFX related software such as Adobe After Effects, Maya, Cinema4d, Modo, PFTrack, Boujou and Nuke to name a few and he fell in love with the world of Visual Effects and YouTube became his university of choice.
At the beginning of 2020, after many years of using Maya, he found Blender which quickly became his go-to application for anything 3D or VFX related. In mid 2022 he published his first book "Taking Blender to the Next Level" which is available on Amazon.
He currently works as a VFX Artist & 3D Generalist at Accenture, doing mostly 3D and VFX work on TV and Web content for well known brands.
He also runs a YouTube channel called TunnelvizionTV where he teaches VFX and Motion Graphics using a variety of applications.

The presentation is hit or miss. Sometimes the presenter goes into too much detail, or repeats too much, and sometimes not enough detail, and sometimes it is just right. So as a result, some topics I could not follow or even repeat using Blender on my own. The presenter uses the keyboard way too much for a beginner tutorial. I recognize that the most efficient way to use Blender is via keyboard shortcuts, but as this class is supposed to be for beginners, I would suggest that the presenter use the menus much more, and explain that there is a shortcut key to do the same thing. That way a new user can more easily follow what is being done. For some topics, I found it was very hard to follow what the presenter was doing because he was clicking or typing something that I was not aware of. Many times, while I was trying to follow step-by-step, I could not repeat what the presenter was showing, because (after spending much time playing around), I discovered that he must have clicked somewhere or pressed a key that was not obvious to me, and this action greatly affected the outcome. Follow-up on 6/7/25: I have taken another Blender course and learned that there is a "Screenshot Keys" add-on. This add-on puts a little mouse icon in the lower left of the viewport, and whenever a key is pressed, that key is displayed above the mouse icon. The instructor used that add-on, and it helped me immensely in trying to understand the actions that were taken. I suggest that the instructor use this add-on in future videos.

I was looking for a quick introduction to Blender, this course is perfect for that. By keeping the actual models fairly simple, it was possible to cover a lot of ground. What is not covered in this course are very detailed geometric models, but then once one has the basics down, it is possible with some imagination to combine the tools and techniques covered in this course in order to attempt more complex creations. This course helps immensely in overcoming the initial hesitation that one may encounter when using Blender for the first time.

Pretty good course. I wish that there were some assets provided in the course to follow along- mainly a blueprint for Lesson 5. The one he uses is not available online for free and it would be nice if he had used a freely available vector blueprint or one bundled with the course.

A well paced introduction to blender essentials & 3d modelling. Instructor clearly knowledgeable + confident whilst good at both showing & explaining processes & the lesson sequencing was well thought through, which is what sets this apart from free resources you might find elsewhere. A little disappointed there wasn't much on the topic of sculpting mode. Captions were rather hit & miss, but only a minor issue really. Also doesn't touch on exporting to unreal (or unity) but I haven't marked down based on that because it doesn't state anywhere that it will cover that - just would've been bonus points for my use case. Overall it's absolutely worth 6 hours of your time for the notes & swift blender familiarity boost it provides.

As for the first video in this course, I think it was very useful and contains a lot of information, and the explanation was very clear. after reaching video No. 14, I can say that I am really impressed with your beautiful and understandable style in this course, which is full of useful and important information. I highly recommend every beginner to watch these tutorials as they are an essential starting point.

As with any great tutorial, the way this teacher introduces new concepts and re-iterates them so thoroughly that by the end of the tutorial, you'll feel like you've learned everything there is to know about Blender. I now feel empowered and confident to blaze my own path in Blender as a result of this course, so I highly recommend you give it a go.

I really learned a lot about how to use Blender from this course; mind you, that I will have to watch it over again several more times to truly remember and understand it more thoroughly though, but overall it is a great course; I hope that the instructor will make more in depth courses based on just character rigging and posing though because I really want to know and learn more about that, particular subject area in using Blender. thank you.

Been mucking about on YouTube trying out various tutorials in an ad hoc sort of way for over a year, but I took this course to get a formal grounding in the basics and man am I glad I did. I already see value in the first lesson and learned some things that I hadn't stumbled across in all my searches that I know I'll be using from now on. Excellent course and looking forward to more!

Actually I have been working on maya for a year and a half, at the beginning I was little confused about learning Blender due to different interface, different shortcuts and the other things. The most important thing to learn a new program is learning the interface and also how the tools work. If you understand the tools and the other things clearly, you can do whatever you want. This course provides us to understand the principles of the Blender clearly! Thank you a lot!

Excellent course Ruan. You have a natural teaching skill (or may be you developed it with practice). The concept of giving the fundamentals in just a few hours is really good. I think all courses in any subject should be like that so more people are encouraged to actually finish the course. Giving more detailed courses (with more complex examples) should take place in a new separate course if the lecturer is interested. I call this layered education method which I think may prove to be more fruitful than the traditional overwhelming teaching style, which mixes details with fundamentals all at once (despite the claim of grading courses into beginner-intermediate and advanced levels). The idea of speaking out all of your steps deserves lots of credit. The pace of your presentation is excellent, unfortunately many presenters tend to speak fast at times and forget that many many many people are slow thinkers and are not experts in what they are trying to learn. Keep going Ruan if you really enjoy teaching. Thanks!
