  • Then on 3D SHAPES to build-up an isometric drawing, your first foray into the third dimension.

  • We’ll teach you one and two point perspective, along with saturation techniques to give a sense of DEPTH.

  • Building on what we’ve learnt, we practice flowing shapes into one-another to create natural looking FORM.

  • Along the way you’ll learn ADVANCED techniques including pose, shading, lighting, stroke thickness and more.

Grant is yet another skilled instructor from the GameDev.tv team and keeps the course interesting and fun. Ultimately, you wont be a professional artist after this course, and honestly no one should expect to be after 13.5 hours, but you will have the fundamentals to quickly put ideas on paper for peers to visualize what you are talking about. Great skills and fundamentals to have even in the age of AI image generation.

I have been interested in learning about creating video game concept art. When I saw this course I thought I would give this course a try. And let me tell you, this course is worth it. I would like to take the time to thank the instructor for teaching me every lesson of this course. If you are interested in learning about creating video game concept art then I highly recommend this course.

It's a good course for beginners, especially for getting you drawing with all the mini-challenges. I particularly liked the explanations for the perspectives and the character-posing videos. I am giving this a 3.5 out of 5 because to say that you can "follow along with pen and paper" is not very accurate for a beginner. I had to skip lots of section 6 because the instructor used techniques where he used very dark colors in the foreground and then drew over them with lighter colors for details. To do the same with a pen and an eraser is not an easy feat, especially if you follow along with him, which he instructs you to do. I can't erase back in all of those details :(

This course is great! It was fun learning how to draw vehicles, landscapes, faces and other things as well as learn things like proportions, line guides, 1- and 2-point perspectives, shading and other things like that. When I draw now, I can practice the different skills I previously didn't know about. Thank you.

This is really great for anyone who wants to grasp the fundamentals of proportions, perspective, landscapes etc. I learned a lot during this course, there are many details, small and larger, that I'll now be aware of. The best way to approach this course is to draw along and pause whenever the lecturer prompts you to catch up. Also, be sure to do the challenges, they really help. Overall I'm glad I did this course. My favorite sections were Proportions and Drawing Faces, but I might give landscapes a try :-D

I have completed the course and I have to say that Grant Abbitt is a very good teacher. He teaches you the basics of drawing using practical and interesting examples and exercises. It took me a month to complete the course and I must say that I am very satisfied with the results obtained. Obviously you need to dedicate at least 10-15 minutes every day. I believe I will come back often to the various course topics for monthly challenges and improve each topic covered. For sure I will continue my journey to learn how to develop games with GameDev.tv and I hope that more courses on drawing and something on digital painting will be created in the future. I highly recommend this course for everyone.

This is the best drawing course I found. It really teach you the fundamental of draw, from pick your tool, how to use your arm, and how to start with basic shape, not just watch instructor draw like other drawing courses. The goal and challenge in each video are clear and followable. Sometime it is hard to see where the instructor is drawing because he is using digital, but it is not important. In the end I gained confident in drawing, thank you Mr. Grant for this course.

This course really has a lot to offer! I am an SW engineer as an occupation and I develop games as a hobby. This course really helps me put my ideas on a canvas and all the weird dreams I have at night. I do not quite like drawing humans and faces but I found the rest of the course really helpful to me. With an affordable drawing tablet (XP Pen Deco 01 V02) I managed to learn a lot. I was a fan of Krita before getting to know this course, but now I got even better with it. Also I have been doing other courses from GameDev.tv (mostly Unreal Engine and a few Unity courses and had a lot of fun with them)

This course is a great way to get started drawing, or to improve your skills if you already have the basics down. You'll be drawing all kinds of things, and this course would be great even if you have no interest in making games. My only criticism would be the 3D drawing sections where it seemed like there was a huge jump in difficulty. I can't think how to avoid that if you want to cover the material (it's one of the hardest things to do in drawing), but I do feel that maybe the perspective portions could have been a bit slower.

This course is exactly what I have been looking for. The instructor is very knowledgeable and very clear with what he is teaching. By learning drawing concepts and techniques by actually working on concept art pieces as each lessons topic and practice challenge makes it a lot more fun to learn. I highly recommend this course if you are interested in concept art or just improving your drawing skills.
