Course Description
Discover Godot!
The amazing free and open source game engine you've been waiting for is a joy to use. In this course we'll take you from an absolute beginner with no experience in coding at all to someone able to make 2D and 3D games in this lovely little engine.
As a student in this course, you'll go through a series of five projects, each bigger, more awesome and more feature rich than the last.
Loony Lips - a simple word game that will teach you the basics of coding and of Godot
Hoppy Days - a delightful 2D platform game starring a cute bunny
Heist Meisters - a tense 2D top-down stealth game
Cubedude Kickabout - a local multiplayer 3D football/soccer game
Food fight - a third person shooter
We'll be working with GDScript, Godot's powerful python based language that will allow us to get awesome results very quickly. You'll be provided with all the assets you need and the skills to take your games (and your future projects) even further.
Some of the things we'll cover include;
Variables, Arrays and Dictionaries
Tilemaps and Gridmaps
PhysicsBody nodes
Local multiplayer
Using external JSON files
Showing 2D in 3D
And much, much more!
Your instructor will be Yann, who's taught thousands of students Godot since 2017, loves making things and seeing what his students make.
And much much more!. So pick up Discovering Godot today, and I'll see you in the course!

I jumped over from Unity to try Godot with this being my first course (one I had bought a while ago so figured I would try) Yann is a great teacher, he does a good job of explaining what he is doing and is very fun and engaging. Unfortunately, I realised pretty quickly that this content is now out of date, with Godot undergoing some major changes between version 3 and 4. It was enough that I could navigate via a lot of external searching, up until the largest stealth game project, where it just became too much. The UI and components are totally different in a lot of places, meaning you're seeing out of date approaches to using the engine. I was trying to persevere but I think what i'm gaining from the course stopped being worth it around the half way point. If this course was to be updated to Godot 4, I would definitely revisit it, but for now, sadly I cannot recommend it to new learners.

This course is outdated. Be aware that many things have changed. But I accepted that and purchased the course, so I don't minus a score for that. The course was great for me because the content was structured and I learned a lot of what I needed to know for game development. Changes in code and nodes were quickly resolved by searching. But TileMap was a challenge to learn because it has been changed so much. For me this was a great lecture, but I would not recommend it.

Yann is an extremely fun teacher to have. I really like the way the course is structured and the way he teaches the content. However, the biggest downside with this fantastic course is that it is not updated to Godot 4. For me personally, I don't mind spending extra hours to teach myself the updated version of what he is teaching. After lesson 46 out of 103 you will encounter lots and lots of situations where the content is thoroughly outdated and will have to do out of lesson learning, which is fine, but not what you paid for. Overall great course but for Godot 3.

YANN YOU ARE SUCH A GREAT TEACHER. Don't stop teaching Godot! There is so much great info in this course that I will be using for my own games. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the last section, Food Fight, is incomplete. It seems like the videos have gone missing. Aside from that, thank you! If you ever feel like it, a 2.5D platformer course in Godot would be wonderful!

One of the most comprehensive courses that covers a wide range of concepts of the Godot engine, whether it is 2D or 3D. Although the material is covering the 3.x version of the engine the concepts are transferable to the 4.x version. Regarding Yann as an instructor I am speechless, great pace of teaching, great sense of humor and thorough knowledge of game development in general and the engine to be specific. Thank you Yann

Excellent work Yann! Been working in Godot for ~2 years now as a 3D artist and I'm just now trying to dive into the more technical side of things. You explain concepts very well and I've been moving along fine. My only suggestion would be to update for Godot 4, as the many, many changes it brought are immediately apparent when moving to Section 2, though for the most part it's easy to just look up where things were moved and what they were renamed. All in all, great job!

The course covers wide range of projects and by the time you finished them all you are pretty much good to go on your own in exploring Godot. It does give you good foundation but by no mean covers everything Godot has to offer, you still need to actually explore it further yourself by doing your own projects. My only complains about this course is that this course uses a very ancient Godot version (and along with it you will watch Yan struggles with its bugs), so I had to install that older version for easier follow along. If only they could update it to Godot 4 this would've been a tremendous.

This really is the perfect course for beginners to Godot. This is way above in quality compared to what you get on youtube beginner courses. + Great pacing + Clear voice, good volume + Covers fundamentals of Godot very well: UI, Signals, Tilemaps, Scripting etc. + Good amount of repetition + Difficulty of code is suited for beginners, but still gets complex enough to have to pause to think + Exercices for students + Good recaps of what the current code does - Might be too simple code for someone at intermediate levels of coding - A few times parts of the code does not get a proper recap on how it really works I skipped the 3D part in the end of the course because it doesn't interest me.

Yann does an amazing job. I have been programming for most of my life, but for some reason learning Godot seemed overwhelming. I have made it halfway through the course so far, and I can't believe how much I have learned. I had ZERO interest in learning about a side scrolling game, but I quickly realized that Yann was slowly building upon concepts and it was worth every minute. Also, don't make the mistake in thinking that because a given section says 15 minutes (or whatever) that you'll be through it that quickly. I found myself pausing the video and backtracking a little bit to see something that Yann did again, so that I could follow along. Highly recommend this course!
