What people are saying about Penny's courses:
Dr. Penny is a wonderful person and a true expert. All of her courses I've taken have been top notch and in my opinion there is no better teacher out there.
Allow me to say how hugely important this is for a person who is interested in certain types of game design. Creating games where you can create AI behaviors that support emergent situations.
I honestly love Holistic's teaching approach and I've never learned so much within a few hours about coding effectively with such detailed explanations!
This course focuses on providing students with hands-on experience coding game mechanics, while also providing an easy introduction to Python for the intermediate programmer.

I would love to see more Python content from this instructor. This class was nicely scaffolded and the use of self challenges enhanced my understanding. I have already taken a terrific intro course for this language, so projects are what I'm looking for at this point. Penny is so skilled at her trade, I'm actually tempted to jump into her Unity content. Unfortunately, I have several other course waiting to be finished!

Minor: in breakout, the bottom is off by 1. Space invaders was a bit of a mess. I could follow it because I'm a seasoned programmer, used to dealing with all sorts. Tthe way it is delivered is a bit confusing if you don't know a lot about OOP and reference counting. How about create all the classes first, show the interactions then fill in the body. I think that might work a bit better.

The course is basically what I was looking for, which is exposure to pygame. I would like to see a little more explanation of the "why" behind the coding. There are no lessons outside of the coding, so some of the math involved (such as in the Tetris game where you are calculating where on a grid something should be placed) left me a little lost and I would have appreciate, for example, a whiteboard example. Also, this is not a class for beginning Pythonistas. That said, I am getting what I wanted which is exposure to pygame concepts and I can build on what I have been given here.

Thanks to a fantastic teacher and engaging projects, my journey into Python 2d game development has been incredibly enriching. I've not only had a blast working on fun projects but also gained a profound understanding of Python development along the way

Yes. I was curious about what 'game mechanics' really meant and I understand now how these represent natural human behaviors that provide positive and negative re-enforcement to the player. It was very useful to go through most of the game mechanics by category. I'm sure there are more, but this list was very useful to gain a better understanding of this concept in gaming. Mid-way: No additional comments at this point.

I'm a below average programmer and this course keeps it easy on me, unlike other instructors, this instructor keeps it very gentle and keeps it step by step. She gives challenges and it practices what you learned. I learned a lot and it's time to try out my skill in creating some new games!

This is an outstanding course where one builds a couple of retro games with increasingly sophisticated design. The prerequisites are minimal (basic knowledge of variables, conditionals, loops and objects). There are frequent challenges allowing students to think about how the code works and practice the newly-learned techniques. The instructor clearly has much experience in teaching and course design and the result is a very well paced course and succinct explanations. I look forward to taking more courses taught by Penny de Byl.

Felt like the Tetris section was not well explained and went too fast for the average pygame beginner(me) to keep up,but overall the course was very well done and taught me a lot. Thank you

I am interested in how games are made and this is a very good practice and a great hands on to learn. Helps with continuing with my Python programming journey. The more I am able to do these the more the program is making sense. Very great explanations and love the challenges except for the fact i have to wait for you to show me how to do it lol. I have done a few on my own but im sure it just takes practice. Thanks
