James Doyle

Hi, I'm James. I have helped thousands of people learn how to develop their own games in Unity, and whether you're a first-time developer, or need to refresh your skills, I can help you learn to make the games you want to make.

With a bachelors degree in Computer Science and a background working in independent game development, I have been helping others to create their own games and release them on multiple platforms.

I believe in helping you learn by teaching code in context, so rather than having to memorize a bunch of stuff you've never seen before, you learn how each coding concept can be applied to real working problems in your games.

I can't wait to help you learn all about making your own games and how to make them a success.

So why not start learning to make games with me now?

See you soon!

James

This is an excellent course and a great start for anyone interested in making a First Person Shooter in Unity. You will not only learn specific Unity techniques for making an FPS but also why you would use them. The course also helps you start thinking like a game developer, a much harder thing to learn. Since the course is complex and a few years old, there are some rough spots where the student new to Unity will have to search the Q&A or search online to figure a few things out. But even this is like what a real game developer would have to do. I recommend this course without hesitation if you want to make games instead of just go through tutorials.

This is my second completed course with James and I can't speak highly enough of him as a tutor and his courses. His approach is engaging, content is well explained, and it is easy to follow. Personally, I enjoy the challenges as well. This course is perfect for anyone looking to create an FPS

The only complaint I have with James is the way he organizes his codes. They're very difficult to follow at times, especially when the project picks up in complexity. My other gripe is his explanations themselves, they are also a little hard to follow sometimes. Overall, this is definitely a decent course to take for beginners, you do not need advanced knowledge of C# to take this course, you'll be introduce to a few game design concepts under the hood that you might not realized exist in the video games you played.

This is the first Unity Course i REALLY finish on udemy. So congrats for that, first of all! About my level, i think i am about an intermediate user of Unity and my review will be based on that. I actually learn some things in this course. Really useful concepts. James was clear while explaining and he was a great tutor to follow along. However, the whole code is spaghetti and I Think i will have to spend many many hours to refactor everything to actually make a real game out of it. I am still grateful for the things I have learnt among it about how to make a FPS or other unity features like audio mixers. If you are a beginer, you may not understand everything in terms of code but you will surely learn a lot. I also wished there were some tips about level design in general for a First Person Shooter (and why not some pro builder section) Overall, it is good

It doesn't matter if you don't understand some scripting things while doing the course, keep going. The amount of experience I am getting as a total beginner is more than the price of this course. The instructor knows what he is doing he is very good at this! Thank you instructor!

A good start for those who are seeking to learn and eagerly looking forward to create a FPS game. The video is exhaustive and well explained. There are many good shooting game fundamentals detailed here. I'll be referring to these concepts time to time. Thank you James!

What I have learnt from this tutorial is so much as I am 72 I have brought Unity courses here but not one of them compare to this person. He teaches you so much easy way that one can understand and apply to his or her skills. The only problem this teacher has is C# (Visual Studio scripts) window is blurred, he should use zoom in so the student can see code properly apart from this I would recommend this course to everyone. I promise you that you will never find a teacher like him. Thanks, son, Bless you for making this old man understand and keep my mind active. Thanks again Champaklal G Patel

This is a fantastic course and exceeded my expectations. James is a great teacher who is very concise and easy to follow. He has broken down the course into very manageable chunks and covers everything that you need to make a FPS from start to end.

So far so good everything is explained clear and at a great pace. The videos are in 720p so in some instances the * do look like = which had me stopped for a bit I had to go on a discord to ask for help. But knowing more about unity now I will keep a better eye out for those things. Overall so far so good. Hope to see more courses from this guy in the future on Udemy perhaps a more advanced FPS course or RPG/XP courses

As usual a great course from James. I completed all the content and am feeling confident in my abilities using Unity and C# after having done James' courses in Rogue-likes, RPGs, platformers and now FPSs. After each course the previous classes are reinforced and I learn new techniques that add to previous skills, I go back to older games and add new ideas in each time. I'm hoping to combine all this to make a nice game for friends to play soon. Thanks James.
