Hi, I'm James. I have helped thousands of people learn how to develop their own games in Unity, and whether you're a first-time developer, or need to refresh your skills, I can help you learn to make the games you want to make.
With a bachelors degree in Computer Science and a background working in independent game development, I have been helping others to create their own games and release them on multiple platforms.
I believe in helping you learn by teaching code in context, so rather than having to memorize a bunch of stuff you've never seen before, you learn how each coding concept can be applied to real working problems in your games.
I can't wait to help you learn all about making your own games and how to make them a success.
So why not start learning to make games with me now?
See you soon!

I really enjoyed it and learnt most of what I wanted to know to build a tower defence game. The actual game assets were good to work with, but I felt that the UI let things down. It was very basic and felt more like a placeholder. Also I felt that as the course went on the lessons started to feel more rushed. But overall it's a solid course and 100% worth doing if you are interested in building a Tower Defence game. Thanks James.

This is course is very helpful to beginners and people with a few months of unity experience. How so ? You learn how to create the player and enemies. You learn how to setup a basic health system. you learn how to create a path(s) and home bases for the enemy to follow. You how to track create health Vs maxHealth. You learn numerous tips/tricks(working with Canvas/Slider UI as a HealthBar and removing player access to said slider, how to understand the "exclamation mark" in a if..then statment, how to incorporate the TRANSFORM into enemy movement, etc...) James also takes the time to explain why you should be doing something this way...and that way... NOTE: While this course is for All Levels, I would suggest that when James says something like... "Ok, lets put a reference to out Enemy" Pause the Video And try to do it yourself. Look it up in the Unity Online Documentation and try to put it in your code/project. Even though you might get it wrong, it will get you to not just copy and paste code BUT RATHER it will get you thinking about "how to do a PARTICULAR something for a PARTICULAR action/event/etc...". Ive purchased a lot of Udemy Courses, and as far as I am concerned, I should have taken this course months ago. My only real problem is that I would like to see in the bottom left of screen during video, a prompt showing the exact "keys" that are being pressed at that particular moment. Example, RMB + , etc...

Great intro to Game Dev and programming in general. While much of the code could certainly be refactored and optimized, the approach used in these tutorials is great for seeing how game logic is developed and is easily readable. I highly recommend this approach for learning to program alongside game dev.

Fantastic course from a great instructor. The pacing is perfect, James (the instructor) is engaging, and each step is explained in detail. Many of the sections can be applied to other game genres. I would highly recommend this course

Looks like another great course from James, I like the fact that James explains very clearly what he is doing and what everything is about, part way through the course and very enjoyable and informative. my only complaint is James is shocking at answering questions, I guess the logic is leave it to the student to go back through code and perhaps find the problem, this can work as usually its something someone has missed and James could end up answering questions all day long, as its sometimes far more easier to ask the instructor rather than doing the bug scanning, but their are times when no matter what you look at or how many times you just cant see the problem for looking, and its at that point if questions not answered can put students off from completing their course., also personally I've found the questions section very help full at times when someone else before me had the same issue and the fix they had can work for me.

This is a great intro to making a tower defense game in Unity--short videos, easy teaching style, good quality. However--the code is filled with tons of bad practices that make debugging, troubleshooting, and scaling up difficult. Poor naming conventions, massive functions, huge nested if statements, almost no object oriented programming, lots of code not being reused... As long as you treat this as a starting off point and refactor the code at the end, this is a good course. However, I wish some better programming practices were put into place. Really lost opportunity of the course to teach something super valuable.

So far this is far surpassing my expectations. The content is straight forward and engaging. Unlike other tutorials I have purchased the instructor explains what needs to be done, why and then in detail goes into ways to accomplish that then you do it. I can not express how refreshing the explanations are as often in most tutorials I feel like I'm supposed to be a mind reader as to why something is being done and have a total view of the project. I do not get that feeling with this. Everything is steps and engaging. Look forward to looking at other courses from this instructor.

Pt-Br: Eu nunca vi um curso tão detalhado na minha vida, primeira vez que fico satisfeito na Udemy, a didatica dele é incrivel e mesmo não entendendo 100% inglês eu consigo pegar oque ele ta explicando. English: I've never seen such a detailed course in my life, the first time I'm satisfied on Udemy, his teaching is incredible and even though I don't understand 100% English I can understand what he's explaining.

Really enjoyed this course! He teaches great methods of coding and I really enjoyed the way he explained the different systems and reasons why he did it as such. Complete this course and you will have a great working Tower Defense game that is easy to customize and create new systems with! Thanks so much!

I'm loving this course. It moves pretty quickly and is definitely intended for students who are already familiar with the Unity interface. James does a great job of explaining each step of the coding and the game level creation process. That said, James doesn't spend time teaching proper object-oriented programming principles. He's more of a coding that works kind of teacher--which is great for beginners and early intermediate coders who want the basic skills to create a fun game. All in all, his code works well, he teaches solid programming habits, and he reveals the fun side of game development. This tower defense game is a super fun project!
