James Doyle

Hi, I'm James. I have helped thousands of people learn how to develop their own games in Unity, and whether you're a first-time developer, or need to refresh your skills, I can help you learn to make the games you want to make.

With a bachelors degree in Computer Science and a background working in independent game development, I have been helping others to create their own games and release them on multiple platforms.

I believe in helping you learn by teaching code in context, so rather than having to memorize a bunch of stuff you've never seen before, you learn how each coding concept can be applied to real working problems in your games.

I can't wait to help you learn all about making your own games and how to make them a success.

So why not start learning to make games with me now?

See you soon!

James

You are the best instructor in the world. I have not once in my life seen a better and precise way to explain Time.deltaTime or what does the 3 lines in the beggining do. You have made me surely a very big fan of you and i am going to buy all your online course. Kudos to you

I really enjoyed this course! It was simple to understand and it taught me many cool tricks and ways to think while coding in C# and using Unitys various tools. If you just tag along and don't overthink things, the pieces slowly fall together and you start understanding what to manipulate and how! Looking forward to more courses from James!

Very good course and amazing teacher, started after watching his youtube video's, would have liked something like an inventory system. Definetly gonna follow some more courses from James. to James: Thanks, you're awesome!

Half way through and I'm really happy with the course. I don't think the code/class organization is setup to be the easiest to interpret, but good coding practices come with time and experience I suppose

This is the second course I took from James. The first was "Create an RPG game in Unity". This course much better organized and structured. During the course, I didn't have any problems. But some things still need to update. For example, the section with dialogs is poorly made. I would also like to see a section with quests: a quest giver, a quest window where I could track them. I didn't like the section with saving the game. It is very weird to do. Despite this, I enjoyed the course and that was a journey for me. I am jumping into your next courses. Thanks James.

Really solid experience so far. Just done the basic movement so far, but it's very clear and I appreciate the thorough explanations of everything. I started following a series on Youtube but I wanted to get a course that took the time to explain what I was doing as I did it. This is perfect. Should be proud!

The course is great for beginners to quickly get a decent, working Action RPG prototype up and running, and to help familiarize yourself with Unity. However, you won't learn best practices or pro software architecture. Object-oriented programming principles are mostly ignored, at least a third of the scripts are singletons, and there is tons of spaghetti code. If you're a newbie to programming or Unity, then the course is worth it on a sale, but if you're an intermediate level user then, at best, you can learn a few ideas for prototyping a game of this style and not much more. Overall it was worth it and I am satisfied, but don't expect to be blown away.

James once again does a fantastic job teaching you how to make a basic RPG. He leaves area's open for you to build upon and continue your game. I would highly recommend this course to anyone that needs a step in the right direction on making a 2D RPG.

Wow! It really is thrilling to create a game. Sadly, I spent quite a bit on assets to perform functions I learned here (e.g. Camera Control, Tilemaps etc.) Sure I knew this was online but I could follow this instructor's pacing and outline better. He knows his stuff but also presents well. For anyone new looking for courses, so far the two most useful on game development, seem to be this one and The Ultimate Guide to Game Development with Unity 2019. Thank you.

An excellent course from James, as usual. The instructor explains and demonstrates everything clearly and enthusiastically, and you will be exposed to a large range of tools that you can use to make your games come to life. There is some overlap with other courses, particularly the Roguelike course, but there are also a number of useful topics here that course didn't cover, such as melee combat, dialog, and a save system. One minor gripe: the code, while effective, doesn't entirely follow the best practices of object oriented programming. There is very little refactoring (so methods tend to be long), and many variables are declared as public when serializing them would do. The one thing I felt was missing was an inventory system. This is a brand-new course, and it is not as long as some of James's other courses, so I am hoping that this topic may be added in the future. A little bit of magic would be fun, too. I look forward to more great courses from James in the future. Thank you.
