B2B Sales Skills Training: Consultative Selling Master Class (Udemy.com)

Sales Training - Professional B2B Selling Skills for Consultants, Entrepreneurs and all Who Bring in the Business!

Created by: Lawrence M. Miller

Last updated February 2026

Our take

Based on the ratings of 5,283 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in February 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

Lawrence Miller's course teaches consultative selling: working out a client's problem with them, then co-creating the solution, instead of pitching and pushing. It runs about six hours across 55 lectures and eight quizzes, and more than 18,000 students have enrolled. The syllabus moves from a field study of top truck salespeople, through branding and the sales funnel, to the consultative conversation and a short section on servicing the sale. It is aimed at consultants, entrepreneurs and professionals who bring in the business, not people selling products by the hundred.

Reviewers like the clear structure and Miller's experience. Several call the lessons useful, and one says the advice on building trust fits their own business. The 4.6 average from 5,283 ratings backs that up, with 2,973 five-star ratings and only 89 at one or two stars. The complaints are specific. One student found the role play confusing and wanted more of them. Another felt half the course was the instructor's own stories. A third said one lecture would not load. One happy reviewer admitted there are no ground-breaking truths here.

At about six hours it is a quick watch, and the material was refreshed in February 2026. Post-sale service gets only two lectures, so the course is mostly about winning the work, not keeping it. It is relationship-first rather than tactical, which suits service professionals who dislike pushy selling. Anyone after hard closing techniques should look elsewhere.

Best forConsultants, entrepreneurs and professionals who sell services through relationships and need to bring in the business.
Skip it ifYou want cold-call scripts, objection drills or CRM tactics for high-volume transactional selling.

Pros

  • Built around trust and shared problem solving, which suits selling consulting and other services
  • Uses a field study of top truck salespeople and a real proposal that sold for over a million dollars
  • Short at about six hours, with eight quizzes to check understanding along the way
  • Reviewers say the lessons are practical and the instructor clearly knows the work

Cons

  • Only one role play, and a reviewer found its setup confusing and too early in the course
  • One reviewer says half the course is the instructor's own life and experiences, which felt like wasted time
  • Post-sale service gets just two short lectures, and one reviewer hit a lecture that would not load
Worth the time and money. No ground breaking truths out there, but lots of ideas and visions about how sales should be conducted, from Marketing down to the actual sales pitch.

Open to beginners with no prerequisites, though the examples suit consultants and service professionals best.

Course Description

Sell in the Spirit of Service, seek to solve problems and build lasting relationships. This is Consultative Selling Skills,  the anxiety free way to sell million dollar contracts.

Selling is an essential skill in our economy and for your personal development. To earn your full potential you must be able to sell your self, your ideas, your product or service. Consultative Selling reduces the anxiety of selling by focusing on shared problem-solving and building trusting relationships. Those who become partners or principles in professional service firms (consultants, lawyers, etc.) are those who bring in the business. This course describes exactly how to bring in high value contracts by building trusting relationships with clients. To succeed as an entrepreneur you must have the selling skills taught in this course.

The instructor was CEO and owner of a consulting firm for more than thirty years and sold multi-million dollar consulting contracts to companies like Shell Oil Company, Texaco, Honeywell, Merck, Coca-Cola, Bacardi, Corning, and others. He explains exactly how to build your own brand, establish credibility in the marketplace, build awareness, interest, and lasting relationships.

Transactional selling is like a one-night date. Consultative Selling is like a marriage, a partnership with your clients, in which you share in identifying problems and co-creating solutions. Consultative Selling skills take you from the earning potential of a skilled professional in your field to the million dollar plus earning potential of a partner or business owner.

The topics covered include the following:

1. How Do High Performing Sales People Behave? - A Study of the Stars. This is actual field research conducted by the instructor for a client on the dozen most successful sales people out of many hundreds selling for a major commercial truck manufacturer.

2. The Process of Consultative Selling: The Antecedents that Lead to the Sale. The instructor describes the process of creating a "sales funnel" that starts with knowing your market, creating awareness, personal and company branding.

3. The Consultative Conversation. This section describes the factors in "likeability", the process of dialogue (thinking together), problem solving models that enable you to immediately start adding value by helping the client diagnose their problems and co-create solutions that incorporate the features and benefits of your service or product. The instructor shares a detailed actual proposal of his consulting services that sold for more than a million dollars. He also shares a case study and suggest possible proof statements that enable the closing of the sale.

4. Service the Sale: Many sales courses end with the famous "close". However, this instructor insists that the initial close of a contract is only the beginning of a relationship and describes the process of post sale service and quality control that leads to additional sales opportunities.

5. The Essential Communication Skills: The final section of the course is training in the fundamental communication skills of asking open-ended questions, reflective listening, and expressing empathy that are essential to all quality relationships and are essential for Consultative Selling.

There is nothing theoretical about this course. It iis entirely based on the instructors many years as the principle rainmaker of a successful consulting firm.

Lawrence M. Miller

Larry Miller is now teaching eighteen courses with more than 400,000 students in 210 countries on Udemy.  He is the author of eleven books, and has more than forty years of experience consulting with major corporations on their business performance, culture and management systems. Several of his courses on management and leadership are best selling courses in their category and have been adopted by major corporations as part of their leadership development and lean culture implementation process.

His expertise is derived from hands on experience creating change in the culture of more than a hundred organizations. Among his consulting clients have been Honda, Corning, Shell Oil Company, Amoco and Texaco,  Air Canada,  Eastman Chemicals, Xerox, Harris Corporation,  Chick-fil-A, Merck and Upjohn Pharmaceuticals, United Technologies, Metropolitan Life and Landmark Communications.

He began his work in youth prisons after recognizing that the learning system in the organization had exactly the opposite of its intended effect – increasing, rather than decreasing, dysfunctional behavior. For four years he worked to redesign the prison system by establishing the first free- economy behind prison walls, where each inmate had to earn points, maintain a checking account, pay rent and pay for everything he desired. It resulted in measurable improvements in behavior. This was his first organizational transformation.

This course is important because it helps individuals navigate the work environment, start fresh, improve themselves, and set clear career goals. It is informative and encourages action. I am glad I enrolled, as I now have a new perspective on consultative selling and the power of strong selling skills.

By Courtney Fuller on 2/19/2026

The content is great and instructor knows what he is talking about. But I am very disappointed in the role play. I have used it in other courses and it worked great, but this one was very confusing and not set up properly, especially to be done in the introduction. I am also disappointed that there are no other role play opportunities in the course. A clearer set up, further into the course, would be more beneficial.

Loved this course. In this era of AI noise what is missing from Sales perspective is - having a consultative mindset and applying a consultative problem solver approach. It doesn't matter if you are Beginner or a Professional. The insights and steps shared in this course by Lawrence Miller would certainly help sharpen you strategies. Thanks, Santosh

This course teaches you that sales is not about making the product or service more appealing to your potential buyer. Sales is about building a relationship with your potential buyer so that you get to know their pain points, enabling you to solve them and take them a step closer to fulfilling their hopes and dreams.

Nice insights into consultative selling and the final section on Essential communication skills was really a reminder about how important these small things can be. Love the voice of the facilitator and how he injects thoughts / pauses and sometimes intentionally leaves few points incomplete :)

By Anonymized User on 10/17/2021

Decent course with bite sized video sizes. Sometimes a bit American in the way of approaching customers. A bit more emphasis on different cultural aspects throughout the course would be helpful.

Easy to understand. Great presentation

By Josh Meador on 10/21/2020

Wow Larry, just wow. This course is exactly what I was looking for. Larry breaks down selling into the necessary components in order to be successful, and then spends a lot of time diving into these components! Awesome course, so happy I grabbed it!
