Course Description
Welcome to the The 7 Day Android App Bootcamp! If you're looking for a course that is fun and gets straight to the point, then this is the course for you. This course will give brand-new programmers all of the skills that they need to create an app and submit it to the Google Play store!
Other mega courses on Udemy offer 40+ hours of video content, but I wanted to create a course that was more manageable for beginners and didn't include any fluff. In each video I dive straight into the topic, and don't waste your time going over things that you don't really need. I only focus on the essentials, and I give you hands-on practice so that you can easily master the things we are learning!
This course is designed to be taken over a 7-day period, with 1-2 hours dedicated to learning each day. This course is easy to commit to because you won't get overwhelmed with a mountain of content, and you don't need to quit your day job to learn how to code!
Over the past four years I've taught over 100,000 people how to code, and I am a self-taught programmer so I know what it feels like to start from scratch. I care about your learning, but even more importantly... I care about you! I know your time is valuable, so I promise not to waste it.
Together we will use Kotlin and Android Studio to create 3 fully functional Android apps. I will teach you step-by-step everything you need to know, and in just 7 days you will be able to build beautiful Android Pie apps that will impress future or current employers, family, and friends. It's up to you… would you rather spend your next 7 days learning an awesome new skill or watching Netflix? ;)
Our seven-day schedule will look like this:
Day 1 - Welcome. Download and Install Android Studio
Day 2 - Kotlin. Learn the basics of Kotlin with challenges after every lecture
Day 3 - Tip Calculator. Create your first app and learn the basics of Android Studio
Day 4 - Emoji Dictionary. Learn how to work with RecyclerViews and list data
Day 5 - ToDo List. Learn how to store and read data
Day 6 - Google Play Store. Let the world experience your new creations!
Day 7 - Java. Learn the basics of Java (a great plus for a resume)
Easy enough, eh? Well, let's get started! Don't waste your time scouring the internet and trying to piece together how to learn to code on your own. Invest in yourself, and allow me to teach you Android programming while having fun.
Course material is regularly refreshed to include all of the newest updates and information, and since you’re granted lifetime access upon registering, you can rely on this course to keep your programming skills on the cutting edge. Hi! I'm Nick, and I love to code. About five years ago I decided that I wanted to learn to code, but I had limited access to programming resources, and I was getting frustrated with all of the YouTube videos and online tutorials out there. I experimented, struggled, and definitely failed a lot, but I finally got the hang of it, so I decided that I wanted to change the way that people learned to code, and I started teaching. My experience as an online student has directly influenced my teaching style, because I know what it is like to be in your shoes.
When
Apple announced their new programming language, Swift, in 2014, I made my big online teaching debut and created the
internet's first Swift course. Since that time, I have
become a full-time online instructor and I now have courses not only in Swift,
but also in iOS, Android, Django, Kotlin, Python, HTML, Blockchain, etc. I have also created five iOS apps from scratch that are currently live in the App Store and are being used by thousands of users worldwide.
I love sharing my excitement for coding with my students, and I try to make learning as fun and as easy as possible. Thanks for being part of my coding community!

This course has some basic classes focused on explain how to make things (it makes sense because I think that is good for start making an app) it doesn't have deep theoretical concepts about OOP and similar. The instructor has great dictation and explain cleanly. It's my first contact with Android Development and I liked it (currently I have only knowledge in backend dev). In a short period it's possible to make a basic app and see things working. Great!

Course is quite outdated; A lot of the things don't work directly and requires considerable amount of troubleshooting on your part

I missed some theory to understand better why I was doing some stuff and not just coding the whole time. It would be nice some slides with that explanation. The Kotlin part could be expanded a little bit with better examples. For example, too many examples for explaining an if-else condition. Anyway, for a quick introduction it was good and the content too.

The course was a good beginning on Kotlin and basic app development. I had the opportunity to practice what was being taught and rI developed all three apps. I also practiced out the Kotlin part. The instructor asked to pause video and try it before giving answer. This helped in checking the answer. I saw difference in Basic Activity use. My Android studio created basic activity with 2 fragments and I couldn't find any way to avoid that. Ultimately I was able to figure out a way using one fragment. The following things need more looking at 1. Kotlin features: classes, file i/o, collections, coroutines 2. Updating the lectures for the app based on latest Android Studio 3. Looking at more concepts of Kotlin Android programming such as fragments, activities, etc

It was very interesting at the beginning, because the introduction to the code was pretty good. But as the content became more complex, the teacher stopped explaining the meaning of the code that we were writing; from the second app and so on, it became to just copy/paste. I would have preferred to learn just the first and second app, much more explained, and not making the third one, and also not the Java section. Nonetheless, I was able to improve the first app by myself (Tip Calculator) by inquiring in the Kotlin documentation and Stack Overflow, so at least it was a start for me.

As a recent college graduate, the material is a great review. The instructor does a great job of explaining the concepts in the course in an easy to understand engaging way. For me, it helped bridge the gap of how to apply the skills I already know to Kotlin and Android studio. I've studied object oriented programming and I've studied Visual Basic. This course is more modern in terms of industry desired tools and skills. It is encouraging to realize that I will be programming my own ideas soon.

This was a very enjoyable introduction into building android apps using kotlin. It does everything required to break the ice with app development form creating a new project right down to publishing an app on the app store. The purpose here is to wet the appetite and to show that using the tools provided the creation of apps can be done by anyone. I enjoyed the experience and would recommend this course to anyone. I enjoyed the enthusiasm of the tutor liked the hands on approach to creating the apps.

The course provided me the basics of kotlin programming. The material definitely got familiar with the tool and the important concept of list views and adapters. I wish there had been an example of how to make an http request to a server and get back some data. There were times I had to pause and backup in order to follow along. I would have given it 5 stars, if Nick had paused the screen for 10 seconds or so, allowing me absorb what I was seeing and not cause me to pause so often and replay segments. Overall very much worth my time.

I have taken several classes with Nick and the bottom line is that the guy knows what he's talking about. In this course, both the Kotlin and Java languages were covered. The exercises did a nice job of showing both Java and Kotlin in action. If there is one "quirk" I have with Nick's classes, it's that I wish that he would provide the source code for the exercises as well.

This is an excellent short course to get the gist of Kotlin and Android Studio concepts. I already knew Java coming into this course and very basic Android Studio. I took this course because I wanted to get a quick rundown of certain Android Studio concepts that I wasn't sure of and learn Kotlin along the way. After completing this course, I feel a lot more comfortable navigating my way around Android Studio and have gained a good understanding of Kotlin. There's also some bonus Java material at the end for those who don't know Java.
