Unreal Engine 5 :Create game in C++ and blueprint (Beginner) (Udemy.com)

Unreal engine 5 C++ and blueprint course to learn game Develop using both tools C++ and blueprint

Created by: Unreal magic

Last updated January 2025

Our take

Based on the ratings of 71 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in January 2025. No course pays to be reviewed.

The course teaches Unreal Engine 5 by building each piece twice. Unreal magic, the instructor, first makes a feature in Blueprint, then rebuilds it in C++ with the Blueprint version as the reference. The syllabus shows about 14.6 hours across 215 lectures, covering a character, enhanced input, animations, a moving platform, an elevator, a stomper, a fan, UI, items, a door and a jetpack. It is labeled beginner, but the requirements list basic C++ knowledge as important, and that matters.

Reviewers like the teaching. They say the explanations are clear, the pace is steady, and the side-by-side approach makes the gap between Blueprint and C++ easy to see. One person liked that he shows how to search the Unreal documentation. The complaints are sharper. A 2-star reviewer who already knows C++ found it too simple, with inconsistent conventions and older pointer habits instead of TObjectPtr. Another says player movement is overcomplicated, and one 4-star reviewer found it got boring. A newer learner called it challenging and wanted the logic explained better.

Of 71 reviews, 52 are five stars and the average is 4.7, so most people are happy. It was last updated in January 2025, and there are no quizzes or coding exercises. Think of it as a gentle first project, not a lesson in Unreal best practice. Pick it if you know some C++ and want to see Blueprint logic translated. Experienced programmers may find it slow, and two reviewers doubt it suits people brand new to C++.

Best forPeople who know basic C++ and want each Unreal feature built in Blueprint first, then redone in C++.
Skip it ifYou want Unreal best practices or have solid C++ already; one reviewer calls it simple and loose on conventions.

Pros

  • Each feature is built in Blueprint, then rebuilt in C++, so the two are easy to compare
  • Instructor shows how to search the Unreal documentation, not just what to type
  • Covers character, enhanced input, animations, platforms, UI, door and jetpack in 215 lectures
  • Reviewers say the instructor replies to messages fairly quickly

Cons

  • Labeled beginner but needs basic C++; one reviewer says it skips C++ fundamentals
  • A C++ experienced reviewer reports loose conventions and older pointer habits
  • Some reviewers found parts boring or the logic explanations thin
The instructor did a great job of explaining the basics of Unreal Engine, covering both Blueprint and C++. This approach really helped me to clearly see and understand the differences between them.
Peerapat Kaosoon, a student

Beginner label, but the requirements say basic C++ is important. Fits new to Unreal, not new to code.

Course Description

if you want to learn just blueprint this course is for you as beginner as possible

if you have basic knowledge of C++ and you want to learn Unreal engine 5 again this course is for you

if you want to be a good game developer both in C++ and blueprint again you can use this course

Best way to learn unreal engine 5 is to first start with blueprint and when you understand it you can learn C++

that's why I'm teaching both Blueprint and C++ in this course

first we see how to implement one thing in blueprint and then we implement same thing in C++ as well

The goal is to combine both blueprint and C++ so we can create optimized games

as you know most AAA game company are using 10% blueprint in unreal engine and 90% C++

  • How character works in unreal engine

  • How animations works

  • what is game mode

  • Enhanced inputs

  • What is component and how to use them

  • Moving platforms

  • Elevator

  • Stomper

  • Fan

  • Widget design UI

  • Item

this course will be updated and added more obstacles and platform so we can develop it more together

we will be like a group working on a game together

I learned a lot of programming languages like C# C++ java JavaScript PHP verilog  as just hobby

but it was time to work on my dream that is designing games

I started with unity for two years , I got good at it as well

after unity I decide to learn about unreal engine as well

it was in that time eight years ago that I feel in love with unreal engine and blender

Thank You for a great course! I found it to be well paced and straight forward. Definitely recommend this course if you are wanting to learn how to use C++ and Blueprints.

I really enjoyed this course. As a complete beginner, it was perfect for me. The instructor did a great job of explaining the basics of Unreal Engine, covering both Blueprint and C++. This approach really helped me to clearly see and understand the differences between them.

This course might meet some people's expectations, but not me. Over time, it became boring and unengaging. The instructor is certainly knowledgeable, so I don't want to spoil anything, so I'm giving it a 4/5 because someone else might get more out of it than I did.

By Roshni Fernandes on 4/15/2025

I loved this course. As a complete beginner who had done just 1 game on Unreal before this, the fact that I could learn both C++ and blueprints together was interesting and helpful. Although I must admit that I found the course a bit challeneging at times as I am still new to Unreal, but in very little time, i got the hang of it. I think the explanation for the logics could have been explained better but other than that, I really liked it. So many new things to learn. The instructor also responds to your messages fairly quickly. Highly recommend this course

It is such a good course, everything is well explained and going to blueprints and C++ together makes everything even easier to understand, not only that but also the fact that the instructor goes through it teaching also how to search and solve every step so you learn how to use the documentation, it is a very complete course and actually fun too, so win win

By Samuele Damico on 12/27/2024

I left a good review at the start. I edited it because i believe it could help some people. Don't get me wrong, the course is great, i still reccomand this as it helped me but; there is something that could have been done differently: - Mouse input action could have been a simple 2d XY axis. - Player Movement is overcomplicated - It's not really good practice to edit all the property of a springarm from what i know for example in C++, it could have been done in blueprint. The course teaches you almost everything you need, but i wouldn't suggest it as a complete beginner course; if C++ is your first programming language, you will have an hard time understanding how it works, what is an header, what is a pointer and so on... Still though if you have a minimal experience in C++ and maybe a little bit in unreal just how to navigate what are the basic components and how does the hierarchy works, you are good to go.

Great for beginners, the teacher explains things very well so we understand what is going on, and why we are doing things. I love that we do things in Blueprint and then complete the same task in C++ and use the Blueprint as a reference to what we want to do in C++. The course focuses on the basics, but I feel that this is one of its strengths for me as I can remember what and why I am doing things, rather than just typing along and being overwhelmed with extensive C++ code and not knowing why I am doing certain things. The instructor also shows how to search the Unreal documentation for what you're looking for. I highly recommend this course to someone wanting to start dabbling in C++ for their own Unreal 5.4 projects.

By Pwnonator on 11/10/2024

Great course as always with This instructor. He shows how to create the project in both Blueprint and C++. What i like the most is how he shows us how to search the unreal documents for the correct C++ info that we will need. Can't wait to see his next course.

By John Choi on 10/31/2024

I really love the BP and C++ side by side! This is a very unique thing I really wish all the other Unreal C++ tutorials did too. Really clears things up coming from Blueprints only and makes the massive learning curve for Unreal C++ lower and helps me learn how to translate/convert C++ to blueprints and vice versa side by side. I also like how things start simple to really explain concepts, and it gets to the point quickly. This is easily the BEST C++/BP conversion tutorial on Udemy, period.

By Merlin Kannchen on 10/23/2024

Absolutely loving this course with my son! This course is really great and for beginners with basic knowledge of Blueprints, a real guide to whether you should use C++ or Blueprints! :-) Navid's in-depth explanations are spot on, giving us a solid grasp of Unreal Engine. The Discord community is an awesome bonus too, super helpful for any questions! 5 stars all the way!
