Course Description

Not your average Adobe Illustrator course. Adobe Illustrator can be one of the most intimidating drawing and illustration programs to learn because it’s so different than traditional art and many of the other art apps out there. So lets make it fun! In this course we take a young impressionable zombie and walk him through all the basics and tools of Illustration.

Most courses will walk your through all the tools and demonstrate them, but zombies really learn from hands on experience. Getting in there and illustrating.

  • We will learn about drawing shapes by creating Zombie a new arm (we’re still not sure where he left his old one)
  • We will learn about lines and strokes by drawing zombie a new cage
  • We will learn about gradients and transparency by making zombie some medicine
  • We will learn about the pen tool by drawing zombie a brain popsicle
  • We will then pull together everything we’ve learned into a poster for Zombie’s band

Brad Colbow

Hi, I’m Brad. I’m a professional graphic designer and Illustrator.

I’ve published comics, run conferences but what I’m best known for is running a Youtube channel where I talk about technology for illustrators. In that time I’ve published reviews on everything from the Surface Pro to the iPad pro. And everything in between.

I believe drawing and illustration is a journey, we are all constantly learning and getting better and I blog about that on my channel as well. I think anyone can learn to draw all it takes is practice.

It’s never to late to pick up a pencil and start learning.

If you want to learn on how to use Adobe Illustrator, then this curse is an excelent place to start. The teacher (Brad Colbow) does a great job with explaning and showing on how to use the different tools, and gives useful technics, and makes it easy, fun, and simple to use and understand. I got, what I expected, and I can definitely recommend it to anybody new, who wants to start learning Illustrator.

This course is amazing. I started as a complete beginner and now I can easily create various artworks. I tried to learn illustrator a couple of times before and honestly, it was usually very boring and tedious. The instructor makes the lessons very interesting and covers each tool in a very effective and timely manner. The only reason why It's not getting 5 stars is that I think a little design principal would have made this score 100% perfect

The course is simply brilliant for any idiot trying to learn illustration from basics (such as me). The teacher explains everything precisely, making each and every step of a certain task clear and organized. He repeats several processes again and again in several videos, incase any of the students forget it (me). His pace is slow but steady. Definitely worth the try. Learnt the basics in illustration very quickly thanks to him.

This course is a lot of fun! The zombie is very cute, and makes the course enjoyable for my children and I. One thing I would suggest is that it's easy to forget during the course how to change certain options. Like using shift, or alt or which tool to use. A reminder would help to reinforce the learning and experience.

No issues following the exercises in Illustrator CC 23.0.1 (minimal UI differences). I have very limited experience with Illustrator and this was a great first course. Had so many "Ah-ha" moments throughout. The pace of some segments is fast, but that's what the pause button is for. The exercises were very simple and easy to understand, a great confidence booster; and provides all the tools needed to experiment on your own. Excellent course for beginners like me! Thank you!

Very nice course. I come from film and tv production and wanna start doing more graphics design. This was a great and fun way to start out learning the basics of illustrator. Coming from other adobe software like premiere, after effects and photoshop, illustrator is very intuitive to use you just have to think in a whole different way, and Brad explains that in a very understanding way. If you have never touched adobe's software before, this is a great course for you too, as Brad explains this in a slow a fun pace. The only down side is that i now want more, so i can only hope for a new and a little more advanced course. Maybe zombie's band get a big breakthrough and need to go on tour or something. Thanks for the course.

I find that is hard to think of a better start to Adobe Illustrator than this course: Brad came up with a very clever method to keep your attention and explain all the fundamentals in a very engaging and funny way. Also, the art he chose to use for each part of the course is brilliant, because it's simple enough to follow along if you are a beginner, but detailed enough so you think "ok, I am probably using this exact technique for some art that I just tought about". I really hope he keeps expanding his course portfolio, because if every one of them keeps you as engaged as this one, Brad Colbow might be a gold mine.

As a veteran user of Illustrator for Graphic Design, I wanted to approach Illustrator from a drawing point of view. I learned a surprising amount! Am quite delighted. Brad is engaging, and uses light humour to break up the course, and makes it easy to get through in two sittings. His content is easy to follow, and I recommend the course for people looking to learn Illustrator.

I had fun over all I wish it was a bit longer but that's probably because it was a bit more basic than I was hoping for. Tho it did really help me refresh on Illustrator. I do advertising design but don't do much illustration work but would like to start making my own art work I feel like a lot of these tips will help. It helps you learn to make complex shapes using basic shapes and has some fun tips and ticks. But if you have already have a pretty decent understanding of Illustrator then I wouldn't recommend it but it was fun.

Had a very good time throughout the course. The instructor is funny and engaging. It is really a beginner's course in which you can get up and running pretty fast in Illustrator. Sometimes if you feel the pace is fast you should pause and review what he did and just repeat and repeat on your own illustration until you get it as close as possible. You will have a really good foundation after finishing the course and will also have the courage to dive into more advanced stuff. Thank you Brad, really good course!
