James Doyle

Hi, I'm James. I have helped thousands of people learn how to develop their own games in Unity, and whether you're a first-time developer, or need to refresh your skills, I can help you learn to make the games you want to make.

With a bachelors degree in Computer Science and a background working in independent game development, I have been helping others to create their own games and release them on multiple platforms.

I believe in helping you learn by teaching code in context, so rather than having to memorize a bunch of stuff you've never seen before, you learn how each coding concept can be applied to real working problems in your games.

I can't wait to help you learn all about making your own games and how to make them a success.

So why not start learning to make games with me now?

See you soon!

James

Like all of Mr. Doyle's classes, this was informative and fun. He doesn't edit out small mistakes in the code. Instead, he shows the pitfalls and trials of game development and shows you how to backtrack and fix issues. I have watched him on youtube for years and was happy to purchase all of his courses. You should definitely check out his other courses. Great Teacher! I would give you another half star for some tips on making your backgrounds and environments pop like parallax effects. Thanks for doing what you do!

This course is absolutely amazing! It's really opened my eyes and taught me so many useful things that I can now use in my own projects to make them that much better! It's crazy how, just by adding small factors, tiny things, a game can be made into something so much more fun and engaging! You did a great job, Mr. Doyle. Thanks for the help.

I have to admit this course was not at all what I had expected, which was an in-depth look at game theory and design. What it was is: how do you add excitement to an arcade style game? That said, I did enjoy the course and learned a great deal. Although I have no intention of working on arcade games (my interest is in strategy), I still gleaned lots of helpful hints both in terms of game design and especially in terms of C# programming in Unity. No question the instructor knows his stuff. So not what I expected, but good fun nonetheless.

Really great course for adding in extra bells and whistles to a personal project. Makes you think about where to improve aspects of a game. Would be keen for more content, ideas, methods and examples to work on and with. The course content is already made. So you don't have to spend 80% of your time making a game, to then get to the core heart of the course which is pushing a game idea further. This is great if you are familiar with Unity. Not so great if you take this course not knowing anything before hand. Thanks James

Some really fun couple of hours experimenting with game feel and juice. You get to learn some techniques here that you will probably use in every game you make after this, small or large. Some topics could have been a little more extensive and there is still a lot of ground left to cover in the field of "game feel", but overall this course was just a blast. I highly recommend it and look forward to more from James in the future.

This course teaches a lot of small easy tricks and tweaks that really helps you making your game feel more alive and more funny!I really liked the camera moving part but every lecture has given me some new ideas to work on.I also searched for courses similar to this but i couldn't find so much,so I really suggest you to take this course!

Pretty great course, only thing is that the instructor seems to have disappeared from answering some of the questions from the students. I did have one problem I haven't been able to solve, but it's nothing that stopped me from finishing this course. Some great points are made and I'll definitely bring these to my future games. NOTE: Even though it says you don't need coding experience, you will be lost without any previous knowledge of C#. While he explains everything he is doing, it can be hard to follow for a complete beginner.

GamesPlusJames (as the Instructor, James Doyle is known on YouTube) has done it again with another hit. If you want to learn how to create dynamic 2D games of interest in Unity, courses by James Doyle are the way to go. Excellent audio and video quality, and the Instructor is top-notch. James knows video games and how to create them with C# scripting in Unity 5. With this perfect combination, he expertly teaches these skills to others at a level that both beginners and intermediate game developers can use to improve the gameplay of the games they create. The course is easy to follow along with as he goes through how to improve your dynamic gameplay from concept to code. If you haven't already taken his first course, "Learn to Code by Making a 2D Platformer in Unity", I highly recommend you begin with it as he goes through creating a 2D game in Unity 5 from start to finish. This "Improve your Game Design with Better Gameplay" course embellishes the skills you learned in his previous course. If you're already an intermediate game developer, then by all means jump right in and pick up the skills you need to improve your game.

This is a solid course with useful tips on making a platformer/shooter game better. All of the gameplay tips seem to be pulled directly from Jan Willem Nijman's talk, "The Art of Screenshake." (search on youtube if you're interested, it's a fantastic talk). In this course, James breaks down each improvement to show you how to do it in Unity. I found the content easy to follow and will be using these techniques in my own games. Overall, I enjoyed this course, definitely recommend.

James does an excellent job of not only explaining how to do things, but WHY to do them as well, how the code he's writing will make the game more fun. After all, people play games because they look fun, and they keep playing because the game IS fun. The way James teaches the course makes it super accessible for rookies and seasoned veterans alike, stays consistently engaging throughout, and most importantly shows you shows you a lot of ways to iterate on and improve your own product. tl;dr I'd highly recommend this course to anyone looking to have a good time and improve the quality of their game.
