Course Description
Do you ever wonder why your code has so many bugs or find yourself perplexed by code you wrote months ago?
Maybe you've heard of Programming Patterns but don't understand when to use them, or you want to know how to actually implement these Patterns in Unity?
In this course you'll take your coding to the next level!
From fundamental programming best practices including how to write clean, maintainable code to what problems to solve with Programming Patterns, how to write common Patterns in Unity and how Programming Patterns implement best practices.
By the end of the course you'll know how to:
Spot bad practices.
Refactor bad code into better code.
Unpack common Patterns to see why they work.
Apply Programming Patterns to game specific examples.
If you're an intermediate Unity programmer wanting to make bigger games, without drowning in complex code, then this is the course for you.
To take the course you'll need a strong understanding of basic C# programming (classes, methods, ifs, loops) and some familiarity with more advanced concepts (inheritance, interfaces, events).
All students have access to the Q&A forums where our Instructors, Teaching Assistants and Community are ready to help answer your questions and cheer on your success.

Good course that covers a lot of the common design patterns but I would hope some part to have dove deeper. For instance, for the Object Pooling, I would hoped to have learned about the generic Object Pool. It also could have been better by adding a way (such as using a stored HashSet) to avoid having the instantiated pooled objects from having reference to the object pool. But this is just my opinion, doesn't affect that I still think this is a great course for a lot of people including me.

Poderia se aprofundar melhor em cada Design Pattern e exemplos de uso. É fácil de encontrar conteúdo gratuito no Youtube que aborda o tema do curso de forma muito mais rica.

The course is well structured and gives a lot of hints on how to improve your code by using design patterns. The code is mostly theoretical, with a marginal space for practical examples that gives the students the opportunity to test things by themselves. I think it should be a starting point for the RPG course, which I heard is more practical. However, the notions are high-level and well explained, totally recommended.

Very good course for Intermediate-Advanced covering Design Patterns and I really hope Gamedev.tv releases a course like this for Unreal too! The only downside of this course for me was the lack of structure in terms of Resources. It was difficult to see which Unity project file corresponded to which lesson. However, as a more theoretically grounded series this makes sense. Note to other users: based on others' feedback watch the RPG series first if you still need to work through practical, game-applied examples of what is discussed here.

This is a 5 stars course to me, one of the main reason is that there are just too little courses about Design Pattern out there. You can easily find countless of courses teaching you how to make games, but very hard to find courses on showing you the big pictures. And now that I see many courses out there are not following these principles and writing spaghetti code. I think one of the main difference between a pro and an amateur is that the pro's code are usually well planned I can see some other game dev tv courses also apply these principles as well But I would love to see more actual examples of these rules Please make another design pattern course for Unreal, I am sure many people would love to see that as well

Good course but there is so much that can be improved upon. I'd really like some in-game examples like what was done in explaining mvm and MVP patterns for other patterns like decorator and composite pattern. Both the above pattern uses many empty functions and classes so it was hard to grasp. A small game mechanics pulled from your other game such as RPG or building a small gameplay mechanism to explain them would be very helpful instead of having to imagine everything inside my head.

Excellent content to get a better idea of how to code well. Specific examples of code in Unity are given and I finally feel like I have a structure in the way I code so that the code is well organized and logical. Basically, the course reminds us the importance of coding with a better level of abstraction through interfaces, the importance of naming variables, methods, classes, interfaces... and that we create classes keeping in mind the principle of high cohesion and low coupling through a good design and the use of events...

I can't add much, it was all new knowledge for me, a powerful and very useful ones. I've been trying to learn game development (not only design) for more than a year now, and more than once I got stuck on my beginner projects, they all become a mess once the project starts to grow! That said, I've been visiting this course daily, and rewatching a random lecture, just to let that knowledge sink in with time, it's a lot to absorb! Thank you for sharing it, and also thanks for the "More information" at the Wrapping Up section!

Thank you for this amazing course! With it's help the discussed patterns became more clear and obvious to me and I gained some basic knowledge that helped me to understand more advanced information about these and other patterns. The sources for further reading are great, especially in the last lecture. SOLID principles are explained briefly but nevertheless thoroughly and with descriptive examples. Despite I'm not working with Unity and I took this course only for theoretic part, the practical one was also almost clear for me due to similarities between C# and C++, but of course I had to look for UE specific examples/analogues by myself. But still I highly recommend taking it for both Unity and UE developers. Again, many thanks to Sam for making this intimidating and intricate topic more clear!

Great course, very useful information that is well explained, difficult to find elsewhere and yet very useful in the real world of application development with Unity. The supplied reading resources and online reference links are a great addition to the bookmarks list on my browser and I'm already using them daily. Thank you to the GameDev.TV team and the brilliant Sam for continuing to guide me towards the light:-)
