Updating after half is done Initially I gathered this was extremely useful. As we dug in further, the author stopped explaining things on the meaning level. Every explanation is like that: "we need to do x, so for that let's do 1." 3 minutes later "now let's do 2." 2 minutes later "now let's do 3" It would be ways more useful if we had a plan in the beginning ("We need to do x, so for that we'll do 1,2 and 3") and be able to bind things we do to each other on the go, instead of reviewing them retroactively after everything is written without much meaning in it.

This course is very good. The tutor has the ability to explain complex topics in a very simple and accessible way. I highly appreciate the presence of clean code principles throughout the course. He doesn’t just teach how to build something, he also demonstrates how important clean code is in the process. I think this course is an excellent choice both for beginners and for experienced developers like me.

Probably the best course I went through. The game we make is super appealing to me and the way we make it is very satisfying and interesting. I am usually discouraged after 60% of a course but not this time. I went through Code Monkey's courses on YouTube, the Kitchen Chaos single and multiplayer part. I found that this one was even better on the coder point of view. Thanks a lot Code Monkey.

Initially, I had been eyeballing this course as a solid way to gain an understanding for a turn-based grid in a concept I came up with. I ended up learning much more than that, and definitely have a better foundation now for building a game (in general). This is not a scriptable objects course, but rather one that focuses on using singletons and generic C# events, which has filled in a lot of gaps for how to approach game design.

At first I rated this course as a five star, but as I get deeper and deeper I am becoming more frustrated and exhausted. My goal for this class was to get a solid foundation for a game that I could edit and make into my own turn based strategy game, and while that may be the case, I feel very unsure I will be able to understand all the connections properly. I am getting closer to the end, and I can confidently say I have retained about 40% of the information, all of which was at the beginning. My goal is just to copy all the code down now, and then re-watch everything, because the speed at which this course goes I cannot do both, I usually pause 20-30 times per video trying to catch up and figure out what's going on, let alone fundamentally understand any system connectedness. Edit: Make good use of the files that are attached, its very easy to miss a instruction at this pace.

Code Monkey is a youtuber game developer who grew in the platform because he has always been passionate about what he does. He always pays attention to detail, so you can expect a very high-quality course that will elevate your coding, design and Unity skills to the next level! The features I appreciated the most were: - Challenges the user to develop their problem-solving skills by challenging them to pause the video so they can try writing certain parts of the code on their own before continuing the lecture. - Uses programming design patterns such as Singleton, Observer and Strategy. - Presents interesting refactoring/readability techniques such as Lambda expressions, if-return statements and inheriting in-common functions/methods from a base class. - Explains the reasons behind the development architecture/design choices made, as well as alternatives to them, depending on your needs/preferences. - Makes from scratch, step-by-step, highly organized, generic, extendable algorithms (Grid system, Unit action system, A* pathfinding, etc). - Project management practices (creating an empty parent for GOs, naming conventions, organizing tabs, etc). - Introduces and shows how to use the most commonly used Unity packages (Cinemachine, TextMeshPro, Input System, etc). Overall, this course contains a lot of indispensable, complex skills to be learnt/refined and some really important/clean scripts to keep for your studies and future projects, so I definitely recommend it!

Let me tell you something.. at the middle of the course i was thinking "What a wasted talent", thinking about you Code Monkey. i was thinking that because i think you have grat skills and understanding of what you are doing, so maybe you can be working on any great place. but then i realize that if you where working on any great place, maybe no one will be able to learn with you, and THAT WOULD BE A WASTE OF TALENT! so, thnxs for sharing your knowledge, thnxs for being quick (direct to the point), thnxs for caring and many other thnxs. i start from almost zero, and im still closer to zero than any other number, but belive me when i say that im learning a lot with you. btw, i would love to play this game in pvp rather than against IA, it could be done? ps. sorry for my $h1tty english

This is great! even though I want to make a game like this in Unreal Engine and c++, this is still great to see the architecture. A course on programming designing architecture in larger games would be fantastic! Also, it would have been helpful having a video before each section explaining what he was about to do and why. Like why he did not do this design pattern or some other one. Besides that nitpick this is a great course.

Excellent course! Indeed you can take this concept course and mix with all the other GameDevTv courses on RPG. You will be able to change the "Combat RPG" Point and click style for this game and build the Dialogues and quests, Inventory and Shops on top of this mechanic. I just missed a few things in this course. We could have an example code to change the weapon. From Riffle to Pistol. Then it would be easier to introduce the Shotgun, Grenade Launcher etc. Some new code to change levels and Spawn new Units - I guess the Abstract and Interaction codes could be used to build this code to avoid using Singletons all around.

I want to say thanks to the author! It was really interesting to pass this course. Some of solutions was't optimal from my point, but I think it absolutley ok for beginners. In general I higly recommend this course for beginners in Unity and wish the author to continue this cool project with additional features, for example: non-flat levels (with stairs and sloping surfaces), covers system (I guess it was already made as I saw on youtube). Also will be interesting to take some other mechancs form Wasteland 3 (like a robots\units that occupy more than one cell or switching between turn-based battle and regular realtime gameplay)
