Affinity Designer: Beyond the Basics! (Udemy.com)

This course is primarily aimed at people who have already worked with Affinity Designer. You learn how to create vector graphics from drawings and photos. The results are very impressive. The instructor's good mood is also contagious. Highly recommended.

Good course, really, but I am a bit disapointed, its focused, for the major part, on the pen tool... and you will use it a lot in many projects. I was expecting to use more of the others tools (shape builder, etc..). I was expecting the course, to be a little bit on the side of graphic design than illustration. But I really dig the project with the papecut effect.

Now that I've almost finished Section 4 writing this review, I can say that so far I'm enjoying the course, it's very useful for practicing Affinity Designer to gain skills in fun and engaging ways with project based video lessons. I'm doing the course with v 1 and still managing with knew features (such as knife tool) in v2 as I've already done 4 courses in Affinity Designer by this and other instructors and am already beyond the basics. Anyway, I'm satisfied to have purchased the course and hope I don't come across some features from v2 that's not possible to do in v1 that I'm doing as the course progresses further. Even so, knowing what's knew in v2 is very useful especially if you've purchased it as well, which I have and even if you haven't it's still beneficial to stay up-to-date with these versions.

The course was good overall, but I did feel like *some* of the concepts we spent time on such as vector tracing using the pen tool, should be included with the basic course. For Beyond the Basics I expected to spend more time learning advanced texturing, shadow, layering, blend modes, shape builder, add/subtract shapes, etc. To be completely fair, much of that was covered, but not at a level that felt substantially "beyond" the basics to me. I did learn a fair amount so I won't be a turd and give a low rating, but I'm not convinced this is quite 5 stars for an intermediate course. If this was titled "Affinity Designer Basics: Part 2" then it would be 5 stars.

Un excellent cours pour apprendre certains des outils essentiels d'Affinity Designer. Ally parle très distinctement et son débit est idéal pour ceux qui n'ont pas une maîtrise parfaite de l'anglais. Les sous-titres peuvent également aider. Je conseille également sa chaîne YouTube. Elle explique avec humour que le travail sur Designer est parfois long et fastidieux mais que le résultat en vaut la peine. J'espère qu'elle fera d'autres tutos / cours pour aller encore plus loin dans l'apprentissage du logiciel.

After a few basic lessons I feel like these videos are helping me feel more comfortable with the many ways in which to do things. Making personal usage very fluid for many types of projects and work flows.

Excellent cours, la formatrice connait à fond les outils et la manière de les utiliser, et va à l'essentiel, tout en soulignant les limites et points de vigilance à garder à l'esprit. J'utilise Affinity Designer depuis plusieurs années, et son cours m'apprend beaucoup. En plus sa voix et son élocution rendent le cours agréable à suivre.

loving this course so much I really want to do this as a job I am really looking forward to the 3D work to I love 3D design I love the way the resources have been save into files for each section it makes it so easy to find and place in Affinity Designer

First, let me state that I came to this course as a game programmer looking to get better at game art. I am comfortable with Affinity Designer, so I didn't take her Beginner course. However, for a course called "Beyond the Basics", I thought this course was just OK. Way too much use of the Pen tool and zero focus on working smart. I wish there was more attention paid to Booleans, Compound Shapes, Masking, Shape Designer, Symbols, and Project Organization. To me, those are the concepts that go "Beyond the Basics". Not just tracing art endlessly. The teacher communicates very well, is engaging, and seems to be knowledgeable in drawing, but I'm not sure if she knows the advanced features of Affinity Designer.

It's easy to be overwhelmed with the tools available to us in Affinity Designer and to end up focusing on the tool rather than how to effectively use it. This course shows what can be achieved with a relatively small number of designer tools. The results are great and the presentation of the course is engaging.
