Course Description

You’re making a game, and it’s awesome. But let’s be real—does it sound awesome? You could grab some generic tunes off the internet, but where’s the fun in that? Your game deserves music that’s as epic as it is!

Welcome to our Sound Music Production for Games course! Here, you'll learn how to create custom tracks that fit your game perfectly. From retro adventure vibes to epic RPG boss battle bangers, you’ll craft tunes that level up your game’s atmosphere.

Don’t worry if you’re starting from scratch. All you need is Reaper (a digital audio workstation), and we’ll hook you up with a sample and preset library to kick things off. No fancy studio? No problem. We’ve got you covered.

We’ll take you on a quest through four distinct music genres. First, you’ll create a retro adventure track. Then, dive into the deep with an underwater platformer tune. Feeling spooky? We’ll conjure up an atmospheric horror score. And for the grand finale: an epic RPG boss battle theme. Boom.

By the end, you’ll not only have killer tracks but also the skills to edit and prepare them for playback in your game engine of choice. Yes, we’re talking Unity, Unreal and Godot.

Stuck thinking, “But I’m not a musician” or “What even is a DAW?” Chillax. We’ll guide you through using Reaper to program virtual instruments and mix tracks like a pro. Whether you’ve got game engine skills or just a dream to make original music, this course is for you.

If the thought of writing music makes your palms sweaty (knees weak, arms are heavy. Vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti...), you’re not alone. That’s why we break everything down step-by-step, so you can start small and build big. No need to spit lyrics like Eminem —just bring your passion for gaming.

This course is perfect for aspiring game devs who want to add music to their skill tree. Maybe you’re a coder who’s curious about sound. Or a musician itching to compose for games. Whoever you are, we’re here to help you smash your goals.

So, ready to crank up the volume on your game? Let’s make some music that gets players hyped, scared, or maybe even teary-eyed. Grab your copy of Reaper, and let’s do this. Your game deserves a soundtrack that’s as epic as the adventure itself!

I've never thought that I would ever be able to make something that vaguely resembles music. I've never played an instrument, I learned about music only in school and that was a long time ago. All I can say is - a huge Thank You for this course! Thank You, Mitch, Thank You Game Dev Tv! Keep up the good work!

I loved this course. I much enjoyed that he e.g. just specialized techniques and samples for different song e.g. the horror song white noise examples were useful for my own track when creating wave sounds. also the Game Engine implementations were a nice add-on which could probably be expanded into its own course as well.

Excellent course. The instructor really demonstrates mastery of the content, especially when giving historical backgrounds on the musical process in old games and teaching how to analyze other music to achieve the desired feeling. I really liked the idea of giving small music theory lessons throughout the classes. It flowed well and it didn't felt overwhelming with information. My only complaint is with video editing at times. Sometimes there are dry cuts that make it difficult to follow the notes the instructor is entering. But it's nothing very serious. It doesn't take away from the quality of the course. For those who took the sound effects production course, the music course complements the content very well, especially when it comes to adding external plugins. You could tell that the instructor was very passionate about the course. Especially in the last few classes, where he provided guides to help students take the next steps. and for those who don't speak English, the instructor speaks very calmly and slowly, allowing you to evaluate your reasoning without difficulty.

I wish I could give this course 6 stars! It's very easy to get going and making music, following this. The little nuggets of theory and woven into the lectures very well. I feel like I can make my own songs and I have a thirst for more knowledge on this topic!!

So far this course seems pretty good. The instructor is starting off with baby steps, so it's simple for a noob to audio.....stuff like me, can follow along.

By Matthias N. on 10/2/2025

This course takes a complete beginner to music theory and writing music for games step by step through the process of setting up Reaper, adding instrument packs to Reaper, and composing music. The instrument packs included with the course and information of where to get more free instruments for Reaper is great!

By Jorge Andrés Guerra Guerra on 9/8/2025

Pretty Nice. Priotize practice over theory. Now I need to understand the terminolgy/theory better. And try to learn more of melody patterns i like.

By Alexandre Ancel on 3/17/2025

This course is really great, with useful tips for creating and mixing songs for video games. I just wish there would be more music theory, like how to create a bridge between two music parts, or how to decline multiple versions of the same theme (chill, punchy, gloomy etc). But you'll have some solid bases with it !

By Ryan N Williams on 2/18/2025

Really enjoying this. I didn't think I could create music scores for games, but I was wrong. Thanks for showing me how to do it!

By Pedro Ângelo on 2/14/2025

I found the course was a very well-structured introduction to the world of music composition for games. The instructor provided a very hands-on experience, and it's good to complete the course with some finished tracks. The trade-off is that in some moments the instructor had to jump over some technical details in order to move the course along.
