Hi, I'm James. I have helped thousands of people learn how to develop their own games in Unity, and whether you're a first-time developer, or need to refresh your skills, I can help you learn to make the games you want to make.
With a bachelors degree in Computer Science and a background working in independent game development, I have been helping others to create their own games and release them on multiple platforms.
I believe in helping you learn by teaching code in context, so rather than having to memorize a bunch of stuff you've never seen before, you learn how each coding concept can be applied to real working problems in your games.
I can't wait to help you learn all about making your own games and how to make them a success.
So why not start learning to make games with me now?
See you soon!

I followed this course from start to finish and have learnt so much in the 2 or so months that it took for me to follow along in my spare time. It has been several years since I used Unity last and this was a great refresher - all the more enjoyable given the game James was teaching to build happens to be in one of my favourite genres. While the finished "Farm Life" game is fairly basic, the concepts and techniques that James used in the course such as managing time of day, Harvest Grids, Blocks and so on will all become very useful in my own farming game. If you are new to Unity (or returning to it after a few years like me), this is a great course to get up to speed and also learn how to make a finished game. I followed along using Unity version 6.3 and encountered no issues so go ahead and buy this course if you are having doubts.

Pretty interesting. I've programmed various enterprise level applications. This is my first step into Game Development. I find his approach interesting. I can see area where improvements can be made for optimization, but I've learned that he has a good understanding of development in Unity. So, I wonder if I should implement these improvements on my own or wait to see if his approach is better in the end. Either way, I find is approach very enlightening and easier to understanding how (i.e.) to create and manage a grid system. In addition, he has made this journey fun! I love the part where he accidentally created duplicate players. It had me laughing!!

Hey! First, to my personal background. I am a german Software Developer doing my masters and living in Japan. My hobby/interest is game development. I did this course with some basic knowledge in unity and I would say quite advanced skills in programming. For me this course was fun and easy to follow. That can be seen as the advantage but also the disadvantage of this course. So when you are a complete beginner, I would say this course is perfect and well explained. It doesnt cover enough knowledge to completely make a full game, but it gives you a very good basis to build on. If you are quite advanced, this course might be a bit too simple and not very helping. As for me, this course was very helpful but most importantly it was really fun following the course. The creator of this tutorial is also very entertaining. He is enjoying this process it seems and has a good pronounciation. For beginners and bit advanced : 4.5 out of 5 . For the rest: 4 out of 5, because regarding your skill level, this course is well made and fun to follow.

This is one of the better courses I have taken on Udemy. Throughout all the lectures, James kept to a good speed, presenting his steps taken in Unity, his code and his explanations at a steady pace which made for a good experience as a student following along. While this doesn't give you all the tools necessary for completing a finished game, it does provide all the basics for a cozy farming game. The student will have to look elsewhere for other game components, such as dialogue screens and npc interactions, but that is to be expected. I can recommend this course for anyone who wants to learn how to put together core farming mechanics for a type of game such as this. To repeat myself, this is one of the better Udemy courses I have taken and I found it all very engaging and enjoyable.

This is an amazing tutorial. I'm an absolute beginner in Unity and game development, but I was still able to follow his instructions. Although I sometimes mess things up or make typos in the code that I overlook, I just go back to the previous videos and trace where I made the mistake. Right now, I’ve successfully made the character walk just like in his video. This is a great tutorial for beginners aspiring to become 2D game developers. It won’t make you a guru right away, but it will open the door to a world full of potential.

Honestly i wanna give this course a better rating but here are some points to be taken back Im a total beginner and while this course hands out a lot of useful information on how to code with c# and getting familiar with unity, the instructor is not... very great at teaching himself. Many times he will be like "let's do like this and this.." and then 1 minute later he'll go "oh no sorry it was a mistake i didn't mean to do that", and for a beginner like me, while i was trying to process and remember what he was doing and for him to take back what he said and done, it was very frustrated as i needed to reset my mind to remember the new info, and it happened so many times. also he would always "uh um uh" with pauses like he doesn't really know what he wanted to say, and as a beginner i expected clear instructions from my instructor, not hesitation. also if he could teach on some other minor details to polish the game such as how to make the scene transition smoother, it would be much better. anyways, i still learned a lot of basic stuffs from this course as a total beginner.

I really liked the way you went through each step of the course from beginning to end. It gives me more insights into how gaming development can be made. While this is only a 2D game, some of the concepts will definitely carry over to other games that I want to do. Highly recommended course and very well put together. The one downfall that I did have was there was an error around the end of the course about a boundary issue with an array. You never did explain what that was about because it seemed to go away, but it's all good. My code worked and the error didn't seem to cause any issues, so I'm assuming it was fine in the end or the array got populated somehow. All in all, great tutorial and fun game to develop. Thanks!

I recently completed James' farming tutorial using Unity 6, and I must say it was an incredibly informative and well-structured experience. From the very beginning, James was clear every step of the way, making complex concepts easy to understand for both beginners and those with some prior knowledge of Unity. James took the time to explain the advantages and disadvantages of different techniques, highlighting which methods would be more optimized for performance and efficiency. This insight was invaluable, as it helped me make informed decisions in my own projects. Overall, I highly recommend James' farming tutorial to anyone looking to enhance their skills in Unity 6. His clear instructions, combined with the emphasis on optimization, make this tutorial a must for aspiring game developers.

Now this is what a beginner course looks like. Explanations are very thorough but not overboard with the detail. Has a nice pace of introducing new concepts, each video goes over 1 small section of the game (really 1 feature of the game). My sole comment is: Please use [SerializeField] instead of public. Also there are ways to improve the code further. However just because the code is messy, does not mean the presentation / instruction is messy. This course is really approachable and actually made me like working in Unity, something that no other course has been able to do! I did knock off 1/2 of a star due to the Public vs [SerializeField] thing. As someone who does come from a Comp. Sci background we are taught early to make everything private, to limit access and only open things up as absolutely necessary, and that was actually pretty irritating to follow during the course. With that said, the code may be messy, but the instructional quality is not. This is a really solid Beginner Course.

I've got a couple courses by James. As always, it's both educational and fun to go through. He walks you through every step of the way, and is very good about introducing things incrementally. There are moments when I feel that he takes longer to introduce a concept than he should, or does not utilize a concept once introduced. (E.G. Prefabs, simplifying code examples) Beyond that, you get exactly what it says on the tin. Thanks James!
